Matthew 20:20-32
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 20
20Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons, bowing down and making a request of Him. 21And He said to her, 'What do you desire?' She *said to Him, 'Say that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine shall sit, one at Your right, and one at Your left.' 22But Jesus replied, 'You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?' They *said to Him, 'We are able.' 23He *said to them, 'My cup you shall drink; but to sit at My right and at My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.'
24And after hearing this, the other ten disciples became indignant with the two brothers.
25But Jesus called them to Himself and said, 'You know that the rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them, and those in high position exercise authority over them.
26It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant,
27and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave;
28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.'
29As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him.
30And two people who were blind, sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, 'Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!'
31But the crowd sternly warned them to be quiet; yet they cried out all the more, 'Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!'
32And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, 'What do you want Me to do for you?'
King James Version
Chapter 20
20Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. 21And he said unto her, What wilt thou She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
23And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
24And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
25But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
26But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
27And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
28Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
29And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
30And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
31And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
32And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you

24When the ten disciples heard this, they became indignant with the two brothers.
25Jesus called them over and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions act as tyrants over them.
26It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave;
28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
29As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.
30There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31The crowd demanded that they keep quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
New Living Translation
24When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant.
25But Jesus called them together and said, 'You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.
26But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,
27and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.
28For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.'

Chapter 20
20Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. 21And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." 22Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." 23He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." 24And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
29And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
30And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"

New International Version
24When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—
28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
New King James Version
24And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers.
25But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.
26Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
27And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—
28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
