Matthew 2:7-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
7
Then Herod secretly called for the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.
8
And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, 'Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found
Him,
report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.'
9
After hearing the king, they went on their way; and behold, the star, which they had seen in the east, went on ahead of them until it came to a stop over
the place
where the Child was
to be found.
10
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
11
And after they came into the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary; and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12
And after being warned
by God
in a dream not to return to Herod,
the magi
left for their own country by another way.
13
Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord *appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, 'Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.'
King James Version
Chapter 2
7
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
12
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Chapter 2
7
Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and asked them the exact time the star appeared.
8
He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the child. When you find him, report back to me so that I too can go and worship him."
9
After hearing the king, they went on their way. And there it was—the star they had seen at its rising. It led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was.
10
When they saw the star, they were overwhelmed with joy.
11
Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12
And being warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their own country by another route.
13
After they were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Get up! Take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to search for the child to kill him."
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
7
Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared.
8
Then he told them, 'Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!'
9
After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was.
10
When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!
11
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12
When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.
13
After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. 'Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,' the angel said. 'Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.'
