Matthew 2:2-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
2
Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.'
3
When Herod the king heard
this,
he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4
And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
5
They said to him, 'In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
6
‘AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH,
ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH;
FOR FROM YOU WILL COME FORTH A RULER
WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’?'
King James Version
Chapter 2
2
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6
And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him."
3
When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4
So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Christ would be born.
5
"In Bethlehem of Judea," they told him, "because this is what was written by the prophet:
6
And you, Bethlehem,
in the land of Judah,
are by no means
least among the rulers of Judah:
Because out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.

King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem.

He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law and asked, 'Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?'
5
In Bethlehem in Judea,' they said, 'for this is what the prophet wrote:
6
‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah,
are not least among the ruling cities of Judah,
for a ruler will come from you
who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’ '
