26When Peter said, 'From strangers,' Jesus said to him, 'Then the sons are exempt. 27However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater. 26They tax the people they have conquered,' Peter replied. 'Well, then,' Jesus said, 'the citizens are free! 27However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line.
