Matthew 15:5-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
5But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, 'Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,' 6he is not to honor his father or mother.’ And by this you have invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you, by saying:
8‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
9AND IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN.’?'
King James Version
Chapter 15
5But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 6And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
10And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
12Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

Chapter 15
5But you say, 'Whoever tells his father or mother, "Whatever benefit you might have received from me is a gift committed to the temple," 6he does not have to honor his father.' In this way, you have nullified the word of God because of your tradition. 7Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said:
8This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
9They worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines human commands."
New Living Translation
Chapter 15
5But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’ 6In this way, you say they don’t need to honor their parents. And so you cancel the word of God for the sake of your own tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote,
8‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’ '
English Standard Version
Chapter 15
5But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” 6he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. 7You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
8“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
9in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
10And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand:
11it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
12Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
New International Version
Chapter 15
5But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is 'devoted to God,' 6they are not to 'honor their father or mother' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.''
New King James Version
Chapter 15
5But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
8‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.
9And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
