Chapter 14
1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the news about Jesus, 2and said to his servants, 'This is John the Baptist; he himself has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.'
3For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
4For John had been saying to him, 'It is not lawful for you to have her.'
5Although Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they regarded John as a prophet.

Chapter 14
1When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about Jesus, 2he said to his advisers, 'This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles.'
3For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).
4John had been telling Herod, 'It is against God’s law for you to marry her.'
5Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of a riot, because all the people believed John was a prophet.
