Matthew 14:23-26
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
23
After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.
24
But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary.
25
And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea.
26
When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out in fear.
King James Version
Chapter 14
23
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
24
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
Christian Standard Bible

Meanwhile, the boat was already some distance from land, battered by the waves, because the wind was against them.
25
Jesus came toward them walking on the sea very early in the morning.
26
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified. "It’s a ghost!" they said, and they cried out in fear.
New Living Translation

23
After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
24
Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.
25
About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.
26
When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, 'It’s a ghost!'
English Standard Version

23
And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
24

25
And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
26
But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear.
New International Version

23
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,
24
and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
26
When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It’s a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
