Matthew 12:43-45
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
43
Now when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find
it.
44
Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds
it
unoccupied, swept, and put in order.
45
Then it goes and brings along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they come in and live there; and the last
condition
of that person becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.'
King James Version
Chapter 12
43
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45
Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
43
"When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn’t find any.
44
Then it says, ‘I’ll go back to my house that I came from.’ Returning, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order.
45
Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that person’s last condition is worse than the first. That’s how it will also be with this evil generation."
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
43
When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none.
44
Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order.
45
Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.'
English Standard Version

Chapter 12
43
"When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
44
Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.
45
Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."
New King James Version
