1
At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads
of grain
and eat.
2
Now when the Pharisees saw
this,
they said to Him, 'Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath!'
3
But He said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions—

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "See, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath."

At about that time Jesus was walking through some grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, so they began breaking off some heads of grain and eating them.

But some Pharisees saw them do it and protested, 'Look, your disciples are breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath.'

Jesus said to them, 'Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
