Mark 6:35-43
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 6
35
And when it was already late, His disciples came up to Him and said, 'This place is secluded and it is already late;
36
send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.'
37
But He answered them, 'You give them
something
to eat!' And they *said to Him, 'Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread, and give
it
to them to eat?'
38
But He *said to them, 'How many loaves do you have? Go look!' And when they found out, they *said, 'Five, and two fish.'
39
And He ordered them all to recline by groups on the green grass.
40
They reclined in groups of hundreds and fifties.
41
And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed
the food
and broke the loaves and He gave
them
to the disciples
again and again
to set before them; and He divided the two fish among them all.
42
And they all ate and were satisfied;
43
and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces
of bread,
and of the fish.
King James Version
Chapter 6
35
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
36
Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
37
He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat
38
He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
39
And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
40
And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
41
And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
42
And they did all eat, and were filled.
43
And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

Chapter 6
35
When it grew late, his disciples approached him and said, "This place is deserted, and it is already late.
36
Send them away so that they can go into the surrounding countryside and villages to buy themselves something to eat."
37
"You give them something to eat," he responded. They said to him, "Should we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?"
38
He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." When they found out they said, "Five, and two fish."
39
Then he instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
40
So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.
41
He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves. He kept giving them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.
42
Everyone ate and was satisfied.
43
They picked up twelve baskets full of pieces of bread and fish.
New Living Translation
Chapter 6
35
Late in the afternoon his disciples came to him and said, 'This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late.
36
Send the crowds away so they can go to the nearby farms and villages and buy something to eat.'
37
But Jesus said, 'You feed them.' 'With what?' they asked. 'We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!'
38
How much bread do you have?' he asked. 'Go and find out.' They came back and reported, 'We have five loaves of bread and two fish.'
39
Then Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
40
So they sat down in groups of fifty or a hundred.
41
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share.
42
They all ate as much as they wanted,
43
and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish.
English Standard Version

36
Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat."
37
But he answered them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?"

And they all ate and were satisfied.

Chapter 6
35
By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. "This is a remote place," they said, "and it’s already very late.
36
Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat."
37
But he answered, "You give them something to eat." They said to him, "That would take more than half a year’s wages ! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?"
38
"How many loaves do you have?" he asked. "Go and see." When they found out, they said, "Five—and two fish."
39
Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
40
So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.
41
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.
42
They all ate and were satisfied,
43
and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.
