Chapter 5

36But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the synagogue official, 'Do not be afraid, only believe.' 37And He allowed no one to accompany Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38They *came to the house of the synagogue official, and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. 39And after entering, He *said to them, 'Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child has not died, but is asleep.' 40And they began laughing at Him. But putting them all outside, He *took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and *entered the room where the child was in bed.

36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. 37And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. 38And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. 39And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. 40And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

Only believe." 37He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter, James, and John, James’s brother. 38They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, "Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." 40They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father, mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was.

36But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, 'Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.'
37Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John (the brother of James). 38When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. 39He went inside and asked, 'Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.'
40The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying.
