Mark 10:3-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 10
3
And He answered and said to them, 'What did Moses command you?'
4
They said, 'Moses permitted
a man
to write a certificate of divorce and send
his wife
away.'
5
But Jesus said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
6
But from the beginning of creation,
God
CREATED THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
7
FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER ,
8
AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9
Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate.'
King James Version
Chapter 10
3
And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you
4
And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5
And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8
And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 10
3
He replied to them, "What did Moses command you?"
4
They said, "Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away."
5
But Jesus told them, "He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.
6
But from the beginning of creation God
made them male and female.
7
For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother
8
and the two will become one flesh.
So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
New Living Translation
Chapter 10
3
Jesus answered them with a question: 'What did Moses say in the law about divorce?'
4
Well, he permitted it,' they replied. 'He said a man can give his wife a written notice of divorce and send her away.'
5
But Jesus responded, 'He wrote this commandment only as a concession to your hard hearts.
6
But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation.
7
‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife,
8
and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one,
9
let no one split apart what God has joined together.'
English Standard Version
