Judges 3:22-24
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
22
The hilt
of the sword
also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade because he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the refuse came out.
23
Then Ehud went out into the vestibule, and shut the doors of the roof chamber behind him, and locked
them.
24
When he had left, the king’s servants came and looked, and behold, the doors of the roof chamber were locked; and they said, 'Undoubtedly he is relieving himself in the cool room.'
King James Version
Chapter 3
22
And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.
23
Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.
24
When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 3
22
Even the handle went in after the blade, and Eglon’s fat closed in over it, so that Ehud did not withdraw the sword from his belly. And the waste came out.
23
Ehud escaped by way of the porch, closing and locking the doors of the upstairs room behind him.
24
Ehud was gone when Eglon’s servants came in. They looked and found the doors of the upstairs room locked and thought he was relieving himself in the cool room.
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
22
The dagger went so deep that the handle disappeared beneath the king’s fat. So Ehud did not pull out the dagger, and the king’s bowels emptied.
23
Then Ehud closed and locked the doors of the room and escaped down the latrine.
24
After Ehud was gone, the king’s servants returned and found the doors to the upstairs room locked. They thought he might be using the latrine in the room,
English Standard Version
Chapter 3
22
And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the dung came out.
23
Then Ehud went out into the porch and closed the doors of the roof chamber behind him and locked them.
24
When he had gone, the servants came, and when they saw that the doors of the roof chamber were locked, they thought, "Surely he is relieving himself in the closet of the cool chamber."
New International Version
Chapter 3
22
Even the handle sank in after the blade, and his bowels discharged. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it.
23
Then Ehud went out to the porch ; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.
24
After he had gone, the servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said, "He must be relieving himself in the inner room of the palace."
New King James Version
Chapter 3
22
Even the hilt went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the dagger out of his belly; and his entrails came out.
23
Then Ehud went out through the porch and shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.
24
When he had gone out,
Eglon’s
servants came to look, and
to their
surprise, the doors of the upper room were locked. So they said, “He is probably attending to his needs in the cool chamber.”
