Judges 15:2-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
2
Her father said, 'I really thought that you hated her intensely; so I gave her to your companion. Is her younger sister not more beautiful than she? Please let her be yours instead.'
3
Samson then said to them, 'This time I will have been blameless regarding the Philistines when I do them harm.'
4
And Samson went and caught three hundred jackals, and took torches, and turned
the jackals
tail to tail and put one torch in the middle between two tails.
5
When he had set fire to the torches, he released
the jackals
into the standing grain of the Philistines and set fire to both the bundled heaps and the standing grain, along with the vineyards
and
olive groves.
6
Then the Philistines said, 'Who did this?' And
some
said, 'Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he took his wife and gave her to his companion.' So the Philistines came up and burned her and her father
to death
with fire.
7
Then Samson said to them, 'If this is how you act, I will certainly take revenge on you, and
only
after
that
will I stop.'
8
So he struck them ruthlessly with a great slaughter; and
afterward
he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
9
Then the Philistines went up and camped in Judah, and spread out in Lehi.
King James Version
Chapter 15
2
And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
3
And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
4
And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.
5
And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
6
Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
7
And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
8
And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam.
9
Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.

Chapter 15
2
"I was sure you hated her," her father said, "so I gave her to one of the men who accompanied you. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she is? Why not take her instead?"
3
Samson said to them, "This time I will be blameless when I harm the Philistines."
4
So he went out and caught three hundred foxes. He took torches, turned the foxes tail-to-tail, and put a torch between each pair of tails.
5
Then he ignited the torches and released the foxes into the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned the piles of grain and the standing grain as well as the vineyards and olive groves.
6
Then the Philistines asked, "Who did this?" They were told, "It was Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because he took Samson’s wife and gave her to his companion." So the Philistines went to her and her father and burned them to death.
7
Then Samson told them, "Because you did this, I swear that I won’t rest until I have taken vengeance on you."
8
He tore them limb from limb and then went down and stayed in the cave at the rock of Etam.
9
The Philistines went up, camped in Judah, and raided Lehi.
New Living Translation
Chapter 15
2
I truly thought you must hate her,' her father explained, 'so I gave her in marriage to your best man. But look, her younger sister is even more beautiful than she is. Marry her instead.'
3
Samson said, 'This time I cannot be blamed for everything I am going to do to you Philistines.'
4
Then he went out and caught 300 foxes. He tied their tails together in pairs, and he fastened a torch to each pair of tails.
5
Then he lit the torches and let the foxes run through the grain fields of the Philistines. He burned all their grain to the ground, including the sheaves and the uncut grain. He also destroyed their vineyards and olive groves.
6
Who did this?' the Philistines demanded. 'Samson,' was the reply, 'because his father-in-law from Timnah gave Samson’s wife to be married to his best man.' So the Philistines went and got the woman and her father and burned them to death.
7
Because you did this,' Samson vowed, 'I won’t rest until I take my revenge on you!'
8
So he attacked the Philistines with great fury and killed many of them. Then he went to live in a cave in the rock of Etam.
9
The Philistines retaliated by setting up camp in Judah and spreading out near the town of Lehi.

3
And Samson said to them, "This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines, when I do them harm."
4
So Samson went and caught 300 foxes and took torches. And he turned them tail to tail and put a torch between each pair of tails.
5
And when he had set fire to the torches, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and set fire to the stacked grain and the standing grain, as well as the olive orchards.

7
And Samson said to them, "If this is what you do, I swear I will be avenged on you, and after that I will quit."

And he struck them hip and thigh with a great blow, and he went down and stayed in the cleft of the rock of Etam.

Then the Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and made a raid on Lehi.

"I was so sure you hated her," he said, "that I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead."
3
Samson said to them, "This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines; I will really harm them."
4
So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch to every pair of tails,

lit the torches and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.

When the Philistines asked, "Who did this?" they were told, "Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because his wife was given to his companion." So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.

Samson said to them, "Since you’ve acted like this, I swear that I won’t stop until I get my revenge on you."

He attacked them viciously and slaughtered many of them. Then he went down and stayed in a cave in the rock of Etam.
