Job 42:4-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 42
4
‘Please listen, and I will speak;
I will ask You, and You instruct me.’
5
I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear;
But now my eye sees You;
6
Therefore I retract,
And I repent,
sitting
on dust and ashes.'
7
It came about after the
Lord
had spoken these words to Job, that the
Lord
said to Eliphaz the Temanite, 'My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken of Me what is trustworthy, as My servant Job
has.
King James Version
Chapter 42
4
Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
5
I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.
6
Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
7
And it was so, that after the
Lord
had spoken these words unto Job, the
Lord
said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 42
4
You said, "Listen now, and I will speak.
When I question you, you will inform me."
5
I had heard reports about you,
but now my eyes have seen you.
6
Therefore, I reject my words and am sorry for them;
I am dust and ashes.
7
After the
Lord
had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: "I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.
New Living Translation
Chapter 42
4
You said, ‘Listen and I will speak!
I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them.’
5
I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
6
I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.'
7
After the
Lord
had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: 'I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.
English Standard Version
Chapter 42
4
‘Hear, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.’
5
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you;
6
therefore I despise myself,
and repent in dust and ashes."
7
After the
Lord
had spoken these words to Job, the
Lord
said to Eliphaz the Temanite: "My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.

I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5
My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6
Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes."
7
After the
Lord
had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.
New King James Version
Chapter 42
4
Listen, please, and let me speak;
You said,
‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’
5
“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees You.
6
Therefore I abhor
myself,
And repent in dust and ashes.”
7
And so it was, after the
Lord
had spoken these words to Job, that the
Lord
said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me
what is
right, as My servant Job
