Chapter 38
18Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this. 19'Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, 20That you would take it to its territory, And discern the paths to its home? 21You know, for you were born then, And the number of your days is great! 22Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, And have you seen the storehouses of the hail, 23Which I have reserved for a time of distress, For a day of war and battle? 24Where is the way that the light is divided, And the east wind scattered on the earth? 25'Who has split open a channel for the flood, And a way for the thunderbolt, 26To bring rain on a land without people, On a desert without a person in it, 27To satisfy the waste and desolate land, And to make the seeds of grass to sprout? 28Does the rain have a father? Or who has fathered the drops of dew? 29From whose womb has come the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth? 30Water becomes hard like stone, And the surface of the deep is imprisoned. 31'Can you tie up the chains of the Pleiades, Or untie the cords of Orion? 32Can you bring out a constellation in its season, And guide the Bear with her satellites? 33Do you know the ordinances of the heavens, Or do you establish their rule over the earth? 34'Can you raise your voice to the clouds, So that an abundance of water will cover you? 35Can you send flashes of lightning, so that they may go And say to you, ‘Here we are’?King James Version

18Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all. 19Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, 20That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? 21Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great? 22Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, 23Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? 24By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
25Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
26To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
27To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
28Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
29Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
30The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
33Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
34Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

18Have you comprehended the extent of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this. 19Where is the road to the home of light? Do you know where darkness lives, 20so you can lead it back to its border? Are you familiar with the paths to its home? 21Don't you know? You were already born; you have lived so long! 22Have you entered the place where the snow is stored? Or have you seen the storehouses of hail, 23which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of warfare and battle?
24What road leads to the place where light is dispersed? Where is the source of the east wind that spreads across the earth?
25Who cuts a channel for the flooding rain or clears the way for lightning,
26to bring rain on an uninhabited land, on a desert with no human life,
27to satisfy the parched wasteland and cause the grass to sprout?
28Does the rain have a father? Who fathered the drops of dew?
29Whose womb did the ice come from? Who gave birth to the frost of heaven
30when water becomes as hard as stone, and the surface of the watery depths is frozen?
31Can you fasten the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion?
32Can you bring out the constellations in their season and lead the Bear and her cubs?
33Do you know the laws of heaven? Can you impose its authority on earth?
34Can you command the clouds so that a flood of water covers you?

29Who is the mother of the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens?
30For the water turns to ice as hard as rock, and the surface of the water freezes.
31'Can you direct the movement of the stars — binding the cluster of the Pleiades or loosening the cords of Orion?
32Can you direct the constellations through the seasons or guide the Bear with her cubs across the heavens?
33Do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth?
