Job 30:4-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 30
4
Who pluck saltweed by the bushes,
And whose food is the root of the broom shrub.
5
They are driven from the community;
They shout against them as
against
a thief,
6
So that they live on the slopes of ravines,
In
holes
in
the ground and
among
the rocks.
7
Among the bushes they cry out;
Under the weeds they are gathered together.
8
Worthless fellows, even those without a name,
They were cast out from the land.
9
'And now I have become their taunt,
And I have become a byword to them.
10
They loathe me
and
stand aloof from me,
And they do not refrain from spitting in my face.
11
Because He has undone my bowstring and afflicted me,
They have cast off the bridle before me.
12
On the right hand their mob arises;
They push aside my feet and pile up their ways of destruction against me.
13
They break up my path,
They promote my destruction;
No one restrains them.
14
As
through
a wide gap they come,
Amid the storm they roll on.
15
Sudden terrors are turned upon me;
They chase
away
my dignity like the wind,
And my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.
16
'And now my soul is poured out within me;
Days of misery have seized me.
King James Version
Chapter 30
4
Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.
5
They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)
6
To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
7
Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
8
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
9
And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
10
They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
11
Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
12
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
13
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
14
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
15
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
16
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 30
4
They plucked mallow among the shrubs,
and the roots of the broom tree were their food.
5
They were banished from human society;
people shouted at them as if they were thieves.
6
They are living on the slopes of the wadis,
among the rocks and in holes in the ground.
7
They bray among the shrubs;
they huddle beneath the thistles.
8
Foolish men, without even a name.
They were forced to leave the land.
9
Now I am mocked by their songs;
I have become an object of scorn to them.
10
They despise me and keep their distance from me;
they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
11
Because God has loosened my bowstring and oppressed me,
they have cast off restraint in my presence.
12
The rabble rise up at my right;
they trap my feet
and construct their siege ramp against me.
13
They tear up my path;
they contribute to my destruction,
without anyone to help them.
14
They advance as through a gaping breach;
they keep rolling in through the ruins.
15
Terrors are turned loose against me;
they chase my dignity away like the wind,
and my prosperity has passed by like a cloud.
16
Now my life is poured out before me,
and days of suffering have seized me.
New Living Translation
Chapter 30
4
They pluck wild greens from among the bushes
and eat from the roots of broom trees.
5
They are driven from human society,
and people shout at them as if they were thieves.
6
So now they live in frightening ravines,
in caves and among the rocks.
7
They sound like animals howling among the bushes,
huddled together beneath the nettles.
8
They are nameless fools,
outcasts from society.
9
'And now they mock me with vulgar songs!
They taunt me!
10
They despise me and won’t come near me,
except to spit in my face.
11
For God has cut my bowstring.
He has humbled me,
so they have thrown off all restraint.
12
These outcasts oppose me to my face.
They send me sprawling
and lay traps in my path.
13
They block my road
and do everything they can to destroy me.
They know I have no one to help me.
14
They come at me from all directions.
They jump on me when I am down.
15
I live in terror now.
My honor has blown away in the wind,
and my prosperity has vanished like a cloud.
16
'And now my life seeps away.
Depression haunts my days.

Chapter 30
4
they pick saltwort and the leaves of bushes,
and the roots of the broom tree for their food.
5
They are driven out from human company;
they shout after them as after a thief.
6
In the gullies of the torrents they must dwell,
in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
7
Among the bushes they bray;
under the nettles they huddle together.
8
A senseless, a nameless brood,
they have been whipped out of the land.
9
"And now I have become their song;
I am a byword to them.
10
They abhor me; they keep aloof from me;
they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.
11
Because God has loosed my cord and humbled me,
they have cast off restraint in my presence.
12
On my right hand the rabble rise;
they push away my feet;
they cast up against me their ways of destruction.
13
They break up my path;
they promote my calamity;
they need no one to help them.
14
As through a wide breach they come;
amid the crash they roll on.
15
Terrors are turned upon me;
my honor is pursued as by the wind,
and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.
16
"And now my soul is poured out within me;
days of affliction have taken hold of me.

Chapter 30
4
In the brush they gathered salt herbs,
and their food was the root of the broom bush.
5
They were banished from human society,
shouted at as if they were thieves.
6
They were forced to live in the dry stream beds,
among the rocks and in holes in the ground.
7
They brayed among the bushes
and huddled in the undergrowth.
8
A base and nameless brood,
they were driven out of the land.
9
"And now those young men mock me in song;
I have become a byword among them.
10
They detest me and keep their distance;
they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
11
Now that God has unstrung my bow and afflicted me,
they throw off restraint in my presence.
12
On my right the tribe attacks;
they lay snares for my feet,
they build their siege ramps against me.
13
They break up my road;
they succeed in destroying me.
‘No one can help him,’ they say.
14
They advance as through a gaping breach;
amid the ruins they come rolling in.
15
Terrors overwhelm me;
my dignity is driven away as by the wind,
my safety vanishes like a cloud.
16
"And now my life ebbs away;
days of suffering grip me.
