Job 26:1-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 26
1Then Job responded,
2'What a help you are to the weak! You have saved the arm without strength!
3What advice you have given to one without wisdom! What helpful insight you have abundantly provided!
4To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit was expressed through you?
5'The departed spirits are made to tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants.
6 Sheol is naked before Him, And Abaddon has no covering.
7He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.
8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, And the cloud does not burst under them.
King James Version
Chapter 26
1But Job answered and said, 2How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength? 3How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? 4To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
5Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
6Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
7He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
8He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 26
1Then Job answered:
2How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak!
3How you have counseled the unwise and abundantly provided insight!
New Living Translation
Chapter 26
1Then Job spoke again:
2'How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the weak!
3How you have enlightened my stupidity! What wise advice you have offered!
4Where have you gotten all these wise sayings? Whose spirit speaks through you?
5'The dead tremble — those who live beneath the waters.
6The underworld is naked in God’s presence. The place of destruction is uncovered.
7God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.
8He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight.
English Standard Version
Chapter 26
1Then Job answered and said:
2“How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength!
3How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
4With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you?
5The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants.
6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
7He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.
8He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them.
New International Version
Chapter 26
1Then Job replied:
2How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!
3What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!
4Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
5The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
6The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.
7He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
8He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
New King James Version
Chapter 26
1But Job answered and said:
2“How have you helped him who is without power? How have you saved the arm that has no strength?
3How have you counseled one who has no wisdom? And how have you declared sound advice to many?
4To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit came from you?
5“The dead tremble, Those under the waters and those inhabiting them.
6 Sheol is naked before Him, And Destruction has no covering.
7 He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.
8 He binds up the water in His thick clouds, Yet the clouds are not broken under it.
