Job 24:15-25
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 24
15
The eye of the adulterer watches for twilight,
Saying, ‘No eye will see me.’
And he disguises his face.
16
In the darkness they dig into houses,
They shut themselves up by day;
They do not know the light.
17
For the morning is the same to him as thick darkness,
For he is familiar with the terrors of thick darkness.
18
'They are insignificant on the surface of the water;
Their plot of land on the earth is cursed.
They do not turn toward the vineyards.
19
Dryness and heat snatch away the snow waters,
As
Sheol
snatches those who
have sinned.
20
A mother will forget him;
The maggot feeds sweetly until he is no longer remembered.
And injustice will be broken like a tree.
21
He wrongs the infertile woman,
And does no good for the widow.
22
But He drags off the mighty by His power;
He rises, but no one has assurance of life.
23
He provides them with security, and they are supported;
And His eyes are on their ways.
24
They are exalted a little while, then they are gone;
Moreover, they are brought low,
and
like everything they are gathered up;
Like the heads of grain they wither.
25
Now if it is not so, who can prove me a liar,
And make my speech worthless?'
King James Version
Chapter 24
15
The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.
16
In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
17
For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
18
He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
19
Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.
20
The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
21
He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
22
He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
23
Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
24
They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
25
And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 24
15
The adulterer’s eye watches for twilight,
thinking, "No eye will see me,"
and he covers his face.
16
In the dark they break into houses;
by day they lock themselves in,
never experiencing the light.
17
For the morning is like darkness to them.
Surely they are familiar with the terrors of darkness!
18
They float on the surface of the water.
Their section of the land is cursed,
so that they never go to their vineyards.
19
As dry ground and heat snatch away the melted snow,
so Sheol steals those who have sinned.
20
The womb forgets them;
worms feed on them;
they are remembered no more.
So injustice is broken like a tree.
21
They prey on the childless woman who is unable to conceive,
and do not deal kindly with the widow.
22
Yet God drags away the mighty by his power;
when he rises up, they have no assurance of life.
23
He gives them a sense of security, so they can rely on it,
but his eyes watch over their ways.
24
They are exalted for a moment, then gone;
they are brought low and shrivel up like everything else.
They wither like heads of grain.
25
If this is not true, then who can prove me a liar
and show that my speech is worthless?
New Living Translation
Chapter 24
15
The adulterer waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No one will see me then.’
He hides his face so no one will know him.
16
Thieves break into houses at night
and sleep in the daytime.
They are not acquainted with the light.
17
The black night is their morning.
They ally themselves with the terrors of the darkness.
18
'But they disappear like foam down a river.
Everything they own is cursed,
and they are afraid to enter their own vineyards.
19
The grave consumes sinners
just as drought and heat consume snow.
20
Their own mothers will forget them.
Maggots will find them sweet to eat.
No one will remember them.
Wicked people are broken like a tree in the storm.
21
They cheat the woman who has no son to help her.
They refuse to help the needy widow.
22
'God, in his power, drags away the rich.
They may rise high, but they have no assurance of life.
23
They may be allowed to live in security,
but God is always watching them.
24
And though they are great now,
in a moment they will be gone like all others,
cut off like heads of grain.
25
Can anyone claim otherwise?
Who can prove me wrong?'
English Standard Version
Chapter 24
15
The eye of the adulterer also waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No eye will see me’;
and he veils his face.
16
In the dark they dig through houses;
by day they shut themselves up;
they do not know the light.
17
For deep darkness is morning to all of them;
for they are friends with the terrors of deep darkness.
18
"You say, ‘Swift are they on the face of the waters;
their portion is cursed in the land;
no treader turns toward their vineyards.
19
Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters;
so does Sheol those who have sinned.
20
The womb forgets them;
the worm finds them sweet;
they are no longer remembered,
so wickedness is broken like a tree.’
21
"They wrong the barren, childless woman,
and do no good to the widow.
22
Yet God prolongs the life of the mighty by his power;
they rise up when they despair of life.
23
He gives them security, and they are supported,
and his eyes are upon their ways.
24
They are exalted a little while, and then are gone;
they are brought low and gathered up like all others;
they are cut off like the heads of grain.
25
If it is not so, who will prove me a liar
and show that there is nothing in what I say?"
New International Version
Chapter 24
15
The eye of the adulterer watches for dusk;
he thinks, ‘No eye will see me,’
and he keeps his face concealed.
16
In the dark, thieves break into houses,
but by day they shut themselves in;
they want nothing to do with the light.
17
For all of them, midnight is their morning;
they make friends with the terrors of darkness.
18
"Yet they are foam on the surface of the water;
their portion of the land is cursed,
so that no one goes to the vineyards.
19
As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow,
so the grave snatches away those who have sinned.
20
The womb forgets them,
the worm feasts on them;
the wicked are no longer remembered
but are broken like a tree.
21
They prey on the barren and childless woman,
and to the widow they show no kindness.
22
But God drags away the mighty by his power;
though they become established, they have no assurance of life.
23
He may let them rest in a feeling of security,
but his eyes are on their ways.
24
For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone;
they are brought low and gathered up like all others;
they are cut off like heads of grain.
25
"If this is not so, who can prove me false
and reduce my words to nothing?"
New King James Version
Chapter 24

The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight,
Saying, ‘No eye will see me’;

“They

Their portion

As drought and heat consume the snow waters,
So
the grave
consumes those who

The womb

The worm

He

And wickedness
