Job 2:2-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
2
The
Lord
said to Satan, 'Where have you come from?' Then Satan answered the
Lord
and said, 'From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.'
3
The
Lord
said to Satan, 'Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds firm to his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.'
4
Satan answered the
Lord
and said, 'Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has, he will give for his life.
5
However, reach out with Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face!'
6
So the
Lord
said to Satan, 'Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life.'
7
Then Satan went out from the presence of the
Lord
and struck Job with severe boils from the sole of his foot to the top of his head.
8
And
Job
took a piece of pottery to scrape himself while he was sitting in the ashes.
9
Then his wife said to him, 'Do you still hold firm your integrity? Curse God and die!'
10
But he said to her, 'You are speaking as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we actually accept good from God but not accept adversity?' Despite all this, Job did not sin with his lips.
King James Version
Chapter 2
2
And the
Lord
said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the
Lord
, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3
And the
Lord
said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4
And Satan answered the
Lord
, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5
But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6
And the
Lord
said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
7
So went Satan forth from the presence of the
Lord
, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8
And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
9
Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Chapter 2
2
The
Lord
asked Satan, "Where have you come from?" "From roaming through the earth," Satan answered him, "and walking around on it."
3
Then the
Lord
said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil. He still retains his integrity, even though you incited me against him, to destroy him for no good reason."
4
"Skin for skin!" Satan answered the
Lord
. "A man will give up everything he owns in exchange for his life.
5
But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."
6
"Very well," the
Lord
told Satan, "he is in your power; only spare his life."
7
So Satan left the
Lord
’s presence and infected Job with terrible boils from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
8
Then Job took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself while he sat among the ashes.
9
His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!"
10
"You speak as a foolish woman speaks," he told her. "Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?" Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
2
Where have you come from?' the
Lord
asked Satan. Satan answered the
Lord
, 'I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.'
3
Then the
Lord
asked Satan, 'Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless — a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.'
4
Satan replied to the
Lord
, 'Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life.
5
But reach out and take away his health, and he will surely curse you to your face!'
6
All right, do with him as you please,' the
Lord
said to Satan. 'But spare his life.'
7
So Satan left the
Lord
’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot.
8
Job scraped his skin with a piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes.
9
His wife said to him, 'Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.'
10
But Job replied, 'You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?' So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

, "From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it."
3
Then the

"Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life.

But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."
6
The

said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life."
7
So Satan went out from the presence of the

Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.
9
His wife said to him, "Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!"
