Chapter 19
4Even if I have truly done wrong, My error stays with me. 5If indeed you exalt yourselves against me And prove my disgrace to me, 6Know then that God has wronged me And has surrounded me with His net. 7'Behold, I cry, ‘Violence!’ but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice. 8He has blocked my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths. 9He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head. 10He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree. 11He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy. 12His troops come together And build up their way against me And camp around my tent. 13'He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances have completely turned away from me. 14My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me. 15Those who live in my house and my servant women consider me a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight. 16I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I have to implore his favor with my mouth. 17My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am loathsome to my own brothers. 18Even young children despise me; I stand up and they speak against me. 19All my associates loathe me, And those I love have turned against me. 20My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth. 21Pity me, pity me, you friends of mine, For the hand of God has struck me. 22Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh? 23'Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were recorded in a book! 24That with an iron stylus and lead They were engraved in the rock forever! 25Yet as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last, He will take His stand on the earth. 26Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I will see God, 27Whom I, on my part, shall behold for myself, And whom my eyes will see, and not another. Chapter 19
4And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself. 5If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach: 6Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. 7Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
9He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
10He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
11He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
12His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
13He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
14My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
15They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
16I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
17My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.
18Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
19All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
20My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
21Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
22Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
24That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
25For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

4Even if it is true that I have sinned, my mistake concerns only me. 5If you really want to appear superior to me and would use my disgrace as evidence against me, 6then understand that it is God who has wronged me and caught me in his net. 7I cry out, "Violence! " but get no response; I call for help, but there is no justice. 8He has blocked my way so that I cannot pass through; he has veiled my paths with darkness. 9He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head. 10He tears me down on every side so that I am ruined. He uproots my hope like a tree. 11His anger burns against me, and he regards me as one of his enemies. 12His troops advance together; they construct a ramp against me and camp around my tent. 13He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me. 14My relatives stop coming by, and my close friends have forgotten me. 15My house guests and female servants regard me as a stranger; I am a foreigner in their sight. 16I call for my servant, but he does not answer, even if I beg him with my own mouth. 17My breath is offensive to my wife, and my own family finds me repulsive. 18Even young boys scorn me. When I stand up, they mock me. 19All of my best friends despise me, and those I love have turned against me. 20My skin and my flesh cling to my bones; I have escaped with only the skin of my teeth. 21Have mercy on me, my friends, have mercy, for God's hand has struck me.
22Why do you persecute me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh?
23I wish that my words were written down, that they were recorded on a scroll
24or were inscribed in stone forever by an iron stylus and lead!
25But I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the end he will stand on the dust.
26Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet I will see God in my flesh.

4Even if I have sinned, that is my concern, not yours. 5You think you’re better than I am, using my humiliation as evidence of my sin. 6But it is God who has wronged me, capturing me in his net.
7'I cry out, ‘Help!’ but no one answers me. I protest, but there is no justice.
8God has blocked my way so I cannot move. He has plunged my path into darkness.
9He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head.
10He has demolished me on every side, and I am finished. He has uprooted my hope like a fallen tree.
11His fury burns against me; he counts me as an enemy.
12His troops advance. They build up roads to attack me. They camp all around my tent.
13'My relatives stay far away, and my friends have turned against me.
14My family is gone, and my close friends have forgotten me.
15My servants and maids consider me a stranger. I am like a foreigner to them.
16When I call my servant, he doesn’t come; I have to plead with him!
17My breath is repulsive to my wife. I am rejected by my own family.
18Even young children despise me. When I stand to speak, they turn their backs on me.
19My close friends detest me. Those I loved have turned against me.
20I have been reduced to skin and bones and have escaped death by the skin of my teeth.
21'Have mercy on me, my friends, have mercy, for the hand of God has struck me.
22Must you also persecute me, like God does? Haven’t you chewed me up enough?

Why are you not satisfied with my flesh? 23“Oh that my words were written! 18Even the little boys scorn me; when I appear, they ridicule me.
19All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me.
20I am nothing but skin and bones; I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
21Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me.
22Why do you pursue me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh?
23Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll,
24that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever!
25I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
26And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;
