Jeremiah 42:2-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 42
2
and said to Jeremiah the prophet, 'Please let our pleading come before you, and pray for us to the
Lord
your God for all this remnant—since we have been left
only
a few out of many, just as your own eyes
now
see us—
3
that the
Lord
your God will tell us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'
4
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, 'I have heard
you.
Behold, I am going to pray to the
Lord
your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole message which the
Lord
gives you as an answer. I will not withhold a word from you.'
5
Then they said to Jeremiah, 'May the
Lord
be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with the whole message with which the
Lord
your God will send you to us.
6
Whether
it is
pleasant or unpleasant, we will listen to the voice of the
Lord
our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well for us when we listen to the voice of the
Lord
our God.'
King James Version
Chapter 42
2
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the
Lord
thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
3
That the
Lord
thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
4
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the
Lord
your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the
Lord
shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
5
Then they said to Jeremiah, The
Lord
be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the
Lord
thy God shall send thee to us.
6
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the
Lord
our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the
Lord
our God.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 42
2
the prophet Jeremiah and said, "May our petition come before you; pray to the
Lord
your God on our behalf, on behalf of this entire remnant (for few of us remain out of the many, as you can see with your own eyes),
3
that the
Lord
your God may tell us the way we should go and the thing we should do."
4
So the prophet Jeremiah said to them, "I have heard. I will now pray to the
Lord
your God according to your words, and I will tell you every word that the
Lord
answers you; I won’t withhold a word from you."
5
And they said to Jeremiah, "May the
Lord
be a true and faithful witness against us if we don’t act according to every word the
Lord
your God sends you to tell us.
6
Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will obey the
Lord
our God to whom we are sending you so that it may go well with us. We will certainly obey the
Lord
our God!"
New Living Translation
Chapter 42
2
Jeremiah the prophet. They said, 'Please pray to the
Lord
your God for us. As you can see, we are only a tiny remnant compared to what we were before.
3
Pray that the
Lord
your God will show us what to do and where to go.'
4
All right,' Jeremiah replied. 'I will pray to the
Lord
your God, as you have asked, and I will tell you everything he says. I will hide nothing from you.'
5
Then they said to Jeremiah, 'May the
Lord
your God be a faithful witness against us if we refuse to obey whatever he tells us to do!
6
Whether we like it or not, we will obey the
Lord
our God to whom we are sending you with our plea. For if we obey him, everything will turn out well for us.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 42
2
and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "Let our plea for mercy come before you, and pray to the
Lord
your God for us, for all this remnant — because we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us —
3
that the
Lord
your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do."
4
Jeremiah the prophet said to them, "I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the
Lord
your God according to your request, and whatever the
Lord
answers you I will tell you. I will keep nothing back from you."
5
Then they said to Jeremiah, "May the
Lord
be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to all the word with which the
Lord
your God sends you to us.
6
Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the
Lord
our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the
Lord
our God."
New International Version
Chapter 42
2
Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, "Please hear our petition and pray to the
Lord
your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left.
3
Pray that the
Lord
your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do."
4
"I have heard you," replied Jeremiah the prophet. "I will certainly pray to the
Lord
your God as you have requested; I will tell you everything the
Lord
says and will keep nothing back from you."
5
Then they said to Jeremiah, "May the
Lord
be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the
Lord
your God sends you to tell us.
6
Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the
Lord
our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the
Lord
our God."
New King James Version
Chapter 42
2
and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please, let our petition be acceptable to you, and pray for us to the
Lord
your God, for all this remnant (since we are left
but
a few of many, as you can see),
3
that the
Lord
your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do.”
4
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard. Indeed, I will pray to the
Lord
your God according to your words, and it shall be,
that
whatever the
Lord
answers you, I will declare
it
to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”
5
So they said to Jeremiah, “Let the
Lord
be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not do according to everything which the
Lord
your God sends us by you.
6
Whether
it is
pleasing or displeasing, we will obey the voice of the
Lord
our God to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the
Lord
our God.”
