So Jacob named the place Peniel, for
he said,
'I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.'
31
Now the sun rose upon him just as he crossed over Penuel, and he was limping on his hip.

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

Jacob then named the place Peniel, "For I have seen God face to face," he said, "yet my life has been spared."

The sun shone on him as he passed by Penuel --limping because of his hip.

Jacob named the place Peniel (which means 'face of God'), for he said, 'I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.'

The sun was rising as Jacob left Peniel, and he was limping because of the injury to his hip.
