Ezekiel 8:9-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
9
Then He said to me, 'Go in and see the wicked abominations that they are committing here.'
10
So I entered and looked, and behold, every form of crawling things and animals
and
detestable things, with all the idols of the house of Israel, were carved on the wall all around.
11
And standing in front of them were seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them, each man
with
his censer in his hand; and the fragrance of the cloud of incense was rising.
12
Then He said to me, 'Do you see, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each man in the rooms of his carved images? For they say, ‘The
Lord
does not see us; the
Lord
has abandoned the land.’?'
13
And He said to me, 'Yet you will see still greater abominations which they are committing!'
King James Version
Chapter 8
9
And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
10
So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
11
And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
12
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The
Lord
seeth us not; the
Lord
hath forsaken the earth.
13
He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
9
He said to me, "Go in and see the detestable, wicked acts they are committing here."
10
I went in and looked, and there engraved all around the wall was every kind of abhorrent thing—crawling creatures and beasts—as well as all the idols of the house of Israel.
11
Seventy elders from the house of Israel were standing before them, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had a firepan in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising up.
12
He said to me, "Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his idol? For they are saying, ‘The
Lord
does not see us. The
Lord
has abandoned the land.’"
13
Again he said to me, "You will see even more detestable acts that they are committing."
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
9
Go in,' he said, 'and see the wicked and detestable sins they are committing in there!'
10
So I went in and saw the walls covered with engravings of all kinds of crawling animals and detestable creatures. I also saw the various idols worshiped by the people of Israel.
11
Seventy leaders of Israel were standing there with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan in the center. Each of them held an incense burner, from which a cloud of incense rose above their heads.
12
Then the
Lord
said to me, 'Son of man, have you seen what the leaders of Israel are doing with their idols in dark rooms? They are saying, ‘The
Lord
doesn’t see us; he has deserted our land!’'
13
Then the
Lord
added, 'Come, and I will show you even more detestable sins than these!'
English Standard Version
Chapter 8
9
And he said to me, "Go in, and see the vile abominations that they are committing here."
10
So I went in and saw. And there, engraved on the wall all around, was every form of creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel.
11
And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up.
12
Then he said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The
Lord
does not see us, the
Lord
has forsaken the land.’"
13
He said also to me, "You will see still greater abominations that they commit."
New International Version
Chapter 8
9
And he said to me, "Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here."
10
So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel.
11
In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
12
He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘The
Lord
does not see us; the
Lord
has forsaken the land.’ "
13
Again, he said, "You will see them doing things that are even more detestable."
