But I acted for the sake of My name, that it would not be defiled in the sight of the nations among whom they
lived,
in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

So I took them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they

But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations they were living among, in whose sight I had made myself known to Israel by bringing them out of Egypt.

But I didn’t do it, for I acted to protect the honor of my name. I would not allow shame to be brought on my name among the surrounding nations who saw me reveal myself by bringing the Israelites out of Egypt.
