Ezekiel 13:8-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 13
8
Therefore, this is what the Lord
God
says: 'Because you have spoken deceit and have seen a lie, therefore behold, I am against you,' declares the Lord
God
.
9
So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will have no place in the council of My people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, so that you may know that I am the Lord
God
.
10
It is definitely because they have misled My people by saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace. And when anyone builds a wall, behold, they plaster it over with whitewash;
11
so
tell those who plaster
it
over with whitewash, that it will fall. A flooding rain will come, and you, hailstones, will fall, and a violent wind will break out.
12
Behold,
when
the wall has fallen, will you not be asked, ‘Where is the plaster with which you plastered
it?
’?'
13
Therefore, this is what the Lord
God
says: 'I will make a violent wind break out in My wrath. There will also be in My anger a flooding rain and hailstones to consume
it
in wrath.
King James Version
Chapter 13
8
Therefore thus saith the Lord
God
; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord
God
.
9
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord
God
.
10
Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:
11
Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.
12
Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?
13
Therefore thus saith the Lord
God
; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 13
8
"‘Therefore, this is what the Lord
God
says: You have spoken falsely and had lying visions; that’s why you discover that I am against you. This is the declaration of the Lord
God
.
9
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not be present in the council of my people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, and they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord
God
.
10
"‘Since they have led my people astray by saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and since when a flimsy wall is being built, they plaster it with whitewash,
11
therefore, tell those plastering it with whitewash that it will fall. Torrential rain will come, and I will send hailstones plunging down, and a whirlwind will be released.
12
When the wall has fallen, will you not be asked, "Where’s the whitewash you plastered on it?"
13
"‘So this is what the Lord
God
says: I will release a whirlwind in my wrath. Torrential rain will come in my anger, and hailstones will fall in destructive fury.
New Living Translation
Chapter 13
8
Therefore, this is what the Sovereign
Lord
says: Because what you say is false and your visions are a lie, I will stand against you, says the Sovereign
Lord
.
9
I will raise my fist against all the prophets who see false visions and make lying predictions, and they will be banished from the community of Israel. I will blot their names from Israel’s record books, and they will never again set foot in their own land. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign
Lord
.
10
This will happen because these evil prophets deceive my people by saying, ‘All is peaceful’ when there is no peace at all! It’s as if the people have built a flimsy wall, and these prophets are trying to reinforce it by covering it with whitewash!
11
Tell these whitewashers that their wall will soon fall down. A heavy rainstorm will undermine it; great hailstones and mighty winds will knock it down.
12
And when the wall falls, the people will cry out, ‘What happened to your whitewash?’
13
Therefore, this is what the Sovereign
Lord
says: I will sweep away your whitewashed wall with a storm of indignation, with a great flood of anger, and with hailstones of fury.
English Standard Version
Chapter 13
8
Therefore thus says the Lord
God
: "Because you have uttered falsehood and seen lying visions, therefore behold, I am against you, declares the Lord
God
.
9
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who give lying divinations. They shall not be in the council of my people, nor be enrolled in the register of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord
God
.
10
Precisely because they have misled my people, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, these prophets smear it with whitewash,
11
say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall! There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out.
12
And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’
13
Therefore thus says the Lord
God
: I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end.
New International Version
Chapter 13
8
" ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign
Lord
says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign
Lord
.
9
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign
Lord
.
10
" ‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash,
11
therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.
12
When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, "Where is the whitewash you covered it with?"
13
" ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign
Lord
says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.
New King James Version
Chapter 13
8
Therefore thus says the Lord
God
: “Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies, therefore I
am
indeed against you,” says the Lord
God
.
9
“My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies; they shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor be written in the record of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I
am
the Lord
God
.
10
“Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when
there is
no peace—and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered
mortar
—
11
say to those who plaster
it
with untempered
mortar,
that it will fall. There will be flooding rain, and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear
it
down.
12
Surely, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where
is
the mortar with which you plastered
it?
’ ”
13
Therefore thus says the Lord
God
: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume
it.
