If someone gives his neighbor money or goods to keep
for him
and it is stolen from the neighbor’s house, if the thief is caught,
then the thief
shall pay double.

If the thief is not caught, then the owner of the house shall appear before the judges,
to determine
whether he laid his hands on his neighbor’s property.

If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour's goods.

"When a man gives his neighbor valuables or goods to keep, but they are stolen from that person’s house, the thief, if caught, must repay double.

If the thief is not caught, the owner of the house must present himself to the judges to determine whether or not he has taken his neighbor’s property.
New Living Translation

Suppose someone leaves money or goods with a neighbor for safekeeping, and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house. If the thief is caught, the compensation is double the value of what was stolen.

But if the thief is not caught, the neighbor must appear before God, who will determine if he stole the property.

"If a man gives to his neighbor money or goods to keep safe, and it is stolen from the man 's house, then, if the thief is found, he shall pay double.

If the thief is not found, the owner of the house shall come near to God to show whether or not he has put his hand to his neighbor 's property.

"If anyone gives a neighbor silver or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double.

But if the thief is not found, the owner of the house must appear before the judges, and they must determine whether the owner of the house has laid hands on the other person’s property.
