Exodus 12:3-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
3
Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are, each one, to take a lamb for themselves, according to the fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.
4
Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons
in them;
in proportion to what each one should eat, you are to divide the lamb.
5
Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
6
You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to slaughter it at twilight.
7
Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
King James Version
Chapter 12
3
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6
And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7
And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
3
Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month they must each select an animal of the flock according to their fathers’ families, one animal per family.
4
If the household is too small for a whole animal, that person and the neighbor nearest his house are to select one based on the combined number of people; you should apportion the animal according to what each will eat.
5
You must have an unblemished animal, a year-old male; you may take it from either the sheep or the goats.
6
You are to keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembly of the community of Israel will slaughter the animals at twilight.
7
They must take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat them.
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
3
Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one animal for each household.
4
If a family is too small to eat a whole animal, let them share with another family in the neighborhood. Divide the animal according to the size of each family and how much they can eat.
5
The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects.
6
Take special care of this chosen animal until the evening of the fourteenth day of this first month. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight.
7
They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal.
