Exodus 12:23-27
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
23
For the
Lord
will pass through to strike the Egyptians; but when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the
Lord
will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike
you.
24
And you shall keep this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.
25
When you enter the land which the
Lord
will give you, as He has promised, you shall keep this rite.
26
And when your children say to you, ‘ What does this rite mean to you?’
27
then you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the
Lord
because He passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians, but spared our homes.’?' And the people bowed low and worshiped.
King James Version
Chapter 12
23
For the
Lord
will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the
Lord
will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
24
And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
25
And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the
Lord
will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
26
And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
27
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the
Lord
'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
23
When the
Lord
passes through to strike Egypt and sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, he will pass over the door and not let the destroyer enter your houses to strike you.
24
"Keep this command permanently as a statute for you and your descendants.
25
When you enter the land that the
Lord
will give you as he promised, you are to observe this ceremony.
26
When your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’
27
you are to reply, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the
Lord
, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when he struck the Egyptians and spared our homes.’" So the people knelt low and worshiped.
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
23
For the
Lord
will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the
Lord
will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down.
24
Remember, these instructions are a permanent law that you and your descendants must observe forever.
25
When you enter the land the
Lord
has promised to give you, you will continue to observe this ceremony.
26
Then your children will ask, ‘What does this ceremony mean?’
27
And you will reply, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the
Lord
, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt. And though he struck the Egyptians, he spared our families.’' When Moses had finished speaking, all the people bowed down to the ground and worshiped.
