Chapter 18
14But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, 'If it were a matter of some crime or vicious, unscrupulous act, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you; 15but if there are questions about teaching and persons and your own law, see to it yourselves; I am unwilling to be a judge of these matters.' 16And he drove them away from the judgment seat. 17But they all took hold of Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of the judgment seat. And yet Gallio was not concerned about any of these things.
18Now Paul, when he had remained many days longer, took leave of the brothers and sisters and sailed away to Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. Paul first had his hair cut at Cenchrea, for he was keeping a vow.
19They came to Ephesus, and he left them there. Now he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
20When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent,
21but took leave of them and said, 'I will return to you again if God wills,' and he set sail from Ephesus.

17Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
19And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
21But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

14As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrongdoing or of a serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you Jews. 15But if these are questions about words, names, and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of such things." 16So he drove them from the tribunal. 17And they all seized Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal, but none of these things mattered to Gallio.
18After staying for some time, Paul said farewell to the brothers and sisters and sailed away to Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken.
19When they reached Ephesus he left them there, but he himself entered the synagogue and debated with the Jews.
20When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he declined,
21but he said farewell and added, "I’ll come back to you again, if God wills." Then he set sail from Ephesus.

14But just as Paul started to make his defense, Gallio turned to Paul’s accusers and said, 'Listen, you Jews, if this were a case involving some wrongdoing or a serious crime, I would have a reason to accept your case. 15But since it is merely a question of words and names and your Jewish law, take care of it yourselves. I refuse to judge such matters.' 16And he threw them out of the courtroom.
19They stopped first at the port of Ephesus, where Paul left the others behind. While he was there, he went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews.
20They asked him to stay longer, but he declined.
21As he left, however, he said, 'I will come back later, God willing.' Then he set sail from Ephesus.
22The next stop was at the port of Caesarea. From there he went up and visited the church at Jerusalem and then went back to Antioch.

14Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them, "If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. 15But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things." 16So he drove them off. 17Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever.
18Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken.
19They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
20When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined.
21But as he left, he promised, "I will come back if it is God’s will." Then he set sail from Ephesus.
