Acts 14:11-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
11
When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language, 'The gods have become like men and have come down to us!'
12
And they
began
calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.
13
Moreover, the priest of Zeus, whose
temple
was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.
14
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard
about it,
they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out
15
and saying, 'Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men, of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, to turn from these useless things to a living God, who MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND EVERYTHING THAT IS IN THEM.
King James Version
Chapter 14
11
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
12
And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.
13
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
14
Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
15
And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Chapter 14
11
When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in human form!"
12
Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.
13
The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the town, brought bulls and wreaths to the gates because he intended, with the crowds, to offer sacrifice.
14
The apostles Barnabas and Paul tore their robes when they heard this and rushed into the crowd, shouting:
15
"People! Why are you doing these things? We are people also, just like you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you turn from these worthless things to the living God,
who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them

New Living Translation
Chapter 14
11
When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, 'These men are gods in human form!'
12
They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul was Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.
13
Now the temple of Zeus was located just outside the town. So the priest of the temple and the crowd brought bulls and wreaths of flowers to the town gates, and they prepared to offer sacrifices to the apostles.
14
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening, they tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people, shouting,
15
Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings — just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.
