Chapter 2

1Now it came about, when the Lord was about to bring Elijah up by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah left Gilgal with Elisha. 2And Elijah said to Elisha, 'Stay here please, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.' But Elisha said, 'As surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.' So they went down to Bethel. 3Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel went out to Elisha and said to him, 'Are you aware that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?' And he said, 'Yes, I am aware; say nothing about it.'
4And Elijah said to him, 'Elisha, please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.' But he said, 'As surely as the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.' So they came to Jericho. 5Then the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, 'Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?' And he answered, 'Yes, I know; say nothing about it.' 6And Elijah said to him, 'Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.' But he said, 'As surely as the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.' So the two of them went on.
7Now fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan. 8And Elijah took his coat, folded it, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. 1The time had come for the Lord to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elijah and Elisha were traveling from Gilgal,
2and Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the Lord is sending me on to Bethel."But Elisha replied, "As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.
3Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said, "Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? "He said, "Yes, I know. Be quiet."
4Elijah said to him, "Elisha, stay here; the Lord is sending me to Jericho."But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went to Jericho.
5Then the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho came up to Elisha and said, "Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? "He said, "Yes, I know. Be quiet."
6Elijah said to him, "Stay here; the Lord is sending me to the Jordan."But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on.
7Fifty men from the sons of the prophets came and stood observing them at a distance while the two of them stood by the Jordan. 8Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water, which parted to the right and left. Then the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

Chapter 2

1When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were traveling from Gilgal.
2And Elijah said to Elisha, 'Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Bethel.' But Elisha replied, 'As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you!' So they went down together to Bethel.
3The group of prophets from Bethel came to Elisha and asked him, 'Did you know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today?' 'Of course I know,' Elisha answered. 'But be quiet about it.'
4Then Elijah said to Elisha, 'Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Jericho.' But Elisha replied again, 'As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you.' So they went on together to Jericho.
5Then the group of prophets from Jericho came to Elisha and asked him, 'Did you know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today?' 'Of course I know,' Elisha answered. 'But be quiet about it.'
6Then Elijah said to Elisha, 'Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to the Jordan River.' But again Elisha replied, 'As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you.' So they went on together.
7Fifty men from the group of prophets also went and watched from a distance as Elijah and Elisha stopped beside the Jordan River. 8Then Elijah folded his cloak together and struck the water with it. The river divided, and the two of them went across on dry ground!

6Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. 7Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. 8Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.

7Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
