2 Kings 17:8-14
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
8
They also followed the customs of the nations whom the
Lord
had driven out from the sons of Israel, and
in the customs
of the kings of Israel which they had introduced.
9
And the sons of Israel did things secretly against the
Lord
their God which were not right. Moreover, they built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.
10
And they set up for themselves memorial stones and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree,
11
and there they burned incense on all the high places as the nations
did
that the
Lord
had taken into exile before them; and they did evil things, provoking the
Lord
.
12
They served idols, concerning which the
Lord
had said to them, 'You shall not do this thing.'
13
Yet the
Lord
warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets
and
every seer, saying, 'Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments
and
My statutes in accordance with all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.'
14
However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the
Lord
their God.
King James Version
Chapter 17
8
And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the
Lord
cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
9
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the
Lord
their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
10
And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:
11
And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the
Lord
carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the
Lord
to anger:
12
For they served idols, whereof the
Lord
had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
13
Yet the
Lord
testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
14
Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the
Lord
their God.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
8
They lived according to the customs of the nations that the
Lord
had dispossessed before the Israelites and according to what the kings of Israel did.
9
The Israelites secretly did things against the
Lord
their God that were not right. They built high places in all their towns from watchtower to fortified city.
10
They set up for themselves sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
11
They burned incense there on all the high places just like the nations that the
Lord
had driven out before them had done. They did evil things, angering the
Lord
.
12
They served idols, although the
Lord
had told them, "You must not do this."
13
Still, the
Lord
warned Israel and Judah through every prophet and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commands and statutes according to the whole law I commanded your ancestors and sent to you through my servants the prophets."
14
But they would not listen. Instead they became obstinate like their ancestors who did not believe the
Lord
their God.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
8
They had followed the practices of the pagan nations the
Lord
had driven from the land ahead of them, as well as the practices the kings of Israel had introduced.
9
The people of Israel had also secretly done many things that were not pleasing to the
Lord
their God. They built pagan shrines for themselves in all their towns, from the smallest outpost to the largest walled city.
10
They set up sacred pillars and Asherah poles at the top of every hill and under every green tree.
11
They offered sacrifices on all the hilltops, just like the nations the
Lord
had driven from the land ahead of them. So the people of Israel had done many evil things, arousing the
Lord
’s anger.
12
Yes, they worshiped idols, despite the
Lord
’s specific and repeated warnings.
13
Again and again the
Lord
had sent his prophets and seers to warn both Israel and Judah: 'Turn from all your evil ways. Obey my commands and decrees — the entire law that I commanded your ancestors to obey, and that I gave you through my servants the prophets.'
14
But the Israelites would not listen. They were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to believe in the
Lord
their God.

Chapter 17

Lord

9
And the people of Israel did secretly against the

their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.
10
They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree,

Chapter 17
8
and followed the practices of the nations the

9
The Israelites secretly did things against the
Lord
their God that were not right. From watchtower to fortified city they built themselves high places in all their towns.
10
They set up sacred stones and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every spreading tree.
11
At every high place they burned incense, as the nations whom the
Lord
had driven out before them had done. They did wicked things that aroused the
Lord
’s anger.
12
They worshiped idols, though the
Lord
had said, "You shall not do this."
13
The
Lord
warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: "Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets."
14
But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the
Lord
their God.
New King James Version

8

9
Also the children of Israel secretly did against the

10
They set up for themselves

11
There they burned incense on all the high places, like the nations whom the
