2 Kings 17:37-41
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
37
And the statutes, the ordinances, the Law, and the commandment which He wrote for you, you shall take care to do always; and you shall not fear other gods.
38
The covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget, nor shall you fear other gods.
39
But you shall fear the
Lord
your God; and He will save you from the hand of all your enemies.'
40
However, they did not listen, but they kept acting in accordance with their earlier custom.
41
So while these nations feared the
Lord
, they also served their idols; their children likewise and their grandchildren, just as their fathers did, they do to this day.
King James Version
Chapter 17
37
And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.
38
And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.
39
But the
Lord
your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
40
Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.
41
So these nations feared the
Lord
, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
37
You are to be careful always to observe the statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandments he wrote for you; do not fear other gods.
38
Do not forget the covenant that I have made with you. Do not fear other gods,
39
but fear the
Lord
your God, and he will rescue you from all your enemies."
40
However, these nations would not listen but continued observing their former practices.
41
They feared the
Lord
but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their fathers did.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
37
Be careful at all times to obey the decrees, regulations, instructions, and commands that he wrote for you. You must not worship other gods.
38
Do not forget the covenant I made with you, and do not worship other gods.
39
You must worship only the
Lord
your God. He is the one who will rescue you from all your enemies.'
40
But the people would not listen and continued to follow their former practices.
41
So while these new residents worshiped the
Lord
, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
37
And the statutes and the rules and the law and the commandment that he wrote for you, you shall always be careful to do. You shall not fear other gods,
38
and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods,
39
but you shall fear the
Lord
your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies."
40
However, they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner.
41
So these nations feared the
Lord
and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children 's children — as their fathers did, so they do to this day.
New International Version
Chapter 17
37
You must always be careful to keep the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.
38
Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.
39
Rather, worship the
Lord
your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies."
40
They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.
41
Even while these people were worshiping the
Lord
, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.
New King James Version
Chapter 17
37
And the statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandment which He wrote for you, you shall be careful to observe forever; you shall not fear other gods.
38
And the covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget, nor shall you fear other gods.
39
But the
Lord
your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.”
40
However they did not obey, but they followed their former rituals.
41
So these nations feared the
Lord
, yet served their carved images; also their children and their children’s children have continued doing as their fathers did, even to this day.
