2 Corinthians 8:14-20
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
14at this present time your abundance will serve as assistance for their need, so that their abundance also may serve as assistance for your need, so that there may be equality; 15as it is written: 'THE ONE WHO had gathered much did not have too much, AND THE ONE WHO had gathered little did not have too little.'
16But thanks be to God who puts the same earnestness in your behalf in the heart of Titus.
17For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest, he has gone to you of his own accord.
18We have sent along with him the brother whose fame in the things of the gospel has spread through all the churches;
19and not only that, but he has also been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work, which is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our readiness,
20taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift;
King James Version
Chapter 8
14But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 15As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
16But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.
17For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.
18And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;
19And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
20Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
14At the present time your surplus is available for their need, so that their abundance may in turn meet your need, in order that there may be equality. 15As it is written: The person who had much did not have too much, and the person who had little did not have too little.
16Thanks be to God, who put the same concern for you into the heart of Titus.
17For he welcomed our appeal and, being very diligent, went out to you by his own choice.
18We have sent with him the brother who is praised among all the churches for his gospel ministry.
19And not only that, but he was also appointed by the churches to accompany us with this gracious gift that we are administering for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.
20We are taking this precaution so that no one will criticize us about this large sum that we are administering.
New Living Translation
16But thank God! He has given Titus the same enthusiasm for you that I have.
17Titus welcomed our request that he visit you again. In fact, he himself was very eager to go and see you.
18We are also sending another brother with Titus. All the churches praise him as a preacher of the Good News.
19He was appointed by the churches to accompany us as we take the offering to Jerusalem — a service that glorifies the Lord and shows our eagerness to help.
English Standard Version
Chapter 8
14your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”
16But thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same earnest care I have for you.
17For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord.
18With him we are sending the brother who is famous among all the churches for his preaching of the gospel.
19And not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us as we carry out this act of grace that is being ministered by us, for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our good will.
20We take this course so that no one should blame us about this generous gift that is being administered by us,
New International Version
Chapter 8
14At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, 15as it is written: 'The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.'
16Thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.
17For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative.
18And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel.
19What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.
20We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift.
New King James Version
Chapter 8
14but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack—that there may be equality. 15As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

19and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift, which is administered by us to the glory of the Lord Himself and to show your ready mind,
20avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this lavish gift which is administered by us—
