Chapter 30
8And David inquired of the Lord, saying, 'Shall I pursue this band of raiders? Will I overtake them?' And He said to him, 'Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them, and you will certainly rescue everyone.' 9So David left, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the brook Besor, where some who were left behind stayed. 10But David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor stayed behind.
11Now they found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David, and gave him bread and he ate, and they provided him water to drink.
12They also gave him a slice of fig cake and two cakes of raisins, and he ate; then his spirit revived. For he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.
13Then David said to him, 'To whom do you belong? And where are you from?' And he said, 'I am a young man of Egypt, a servant of an Amalekite; and my master abandoned me when I became sick three days ago.

And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. 9So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed. 10But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. 11And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water; 12And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 13And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.Christian Standard Bible
9So David and the six hundred men with him went. They came to the Wadi Besor, where some stayed behind.
10David and four hundred of the men continued the pursuit, while two hundred stopped because they were too exhausted to cross the Wadi Besor.
New Living Translation
9So David and his 600 men set out, and they came to the brook Besor.
10But 200 of the men were too exhausted to cross the brook, so David continued the pursuit with 400 men.
11Along the way they found an Egyptian man in a field and brought him to David. They gave him some bread to eat and water to drink.
12They also gave him part of a fig cake and two clusters of raisins, for he hadn’t had anything to eat or drink for three days and nights. Before long his strength returned.

13And David said to him, “To whom do you belong? And where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite, and my master left me behind because I fell sick three days ago.

10Two hundred of them were too exhausted to cross the valley, but David and the other four hundred continued the pursuit.
