1 Samuel 15:14-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
14
But Samuel said, 'What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the bellowing of the oxen which I hear?'
15
Saul said, 'They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and oxen to sacrifice to the
Lord
your God; but the rest we have completely destroyed.'
16
Then Samuel said to Saul, 'Stop, and let me inform you of what the
Lord
said to me last night.' And he said to him, 'Speak!'
17
So Samuel said, 'Is it not
true,
though you were insignificant in your own eyes,
that
you
became
the head of the tribes of Israel? For the
Lord
anointed you as king over Israel.
18
And the
Lord
sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go and completely destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are eliminated.’
King James Version
Chapter 15
14
And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15
And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the
Lord
thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
16
Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the
Lord
hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.
17
And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the
Lord
anointed thee king over Israel?
18
And the
Lord
sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 15
14
Samuel replied, "Then what is this sound of sheep, goats, and cattle I hear?"
15
Saul answered, "The troops brought them from the Amalekites and spared the best sheep, goats, and cattle in order to offer a sacrifice to the
Lord
your God, but the rest we destroyed."
16
"Stop!" exclaimed Samuel. "Let me tell you what the
Lord
said to me last night." "Tell me," he replied.
17
Samuel continued, "Although you once considered yourself unimportant, have you not become the leader of the tribes of Israel? The
Lord
anointed you king over Israel
18
and then sent you on a mission and said: ‘Go and completely destroy the sinful Amalekites. Fight against them until you have annihilated them.’
New Living Translation
Chapter 15
14
Then what is all the bleating of sheep and goats and the lowing of cattle I hear?' Samuel demanded.
15
It’s true that the army spared the best of the sheep, goats, and cattle,' Saul admitted. 'But they are going to sacrifice them to the
Lord
your God. We have destroyed everything else.'
16
Then Samuel said to Saul, 'Stop! Listen to what the
Lord
told me last night!' 'What did he tell you?' Saul asked.
17
And Samuel told him, 'Although you may think little of yourself, are you not the leader of the tribes of Israel? The
Lord
has anointed you king of Israel.
18
And the
Lord
sent you on a mission and told you, ‘Go and completely destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, until they are all dead.’
English Standard Version

Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stop! I will tell you what the

Chapter 15
14
But Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?"
15
Saul answered, "The soldiers brought them from the Amalekites; they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the
Lord
your God, but we totally destroyed the rest."
16
"Enough!" Samuel said to Saul. "Let me tell you what the
Lord
said to me last night." "Tell me," Saul replied.
17
Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The
Lord
anointed you king over Israel.
18
And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’

And Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the
