1 Samuel 1:14-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
14
Then Eli said to her, 'How long will you behave like a drunk? Get rid of your wine!'
15
But Hannah answered and said, 'No, my lord, I am a woman despairing in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the
Lord
.
16
Do not consider your bond-servant a useless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.'
17
Then Eli answered and said, 'Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your request that you have asked of Him.'
King James Version
Chapter 1
14
And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15
And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the
Lord
.
16
Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17
Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
14
and said to her, "How long are you going to be drunk? Get rid of your wine!"
15
"No, my lord," Hannah replied. "I am a woman with a broken heart. I haven’t had any wine or beer; I’ve been pouring out my heart before the
Lord
.
16
Don’t think of me as a wicked woman; I’ve been praying from the depth of my anguish and resentment."
17
Eli responded, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant the request you’ve made of him."
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
14
Must you come here drunk?' he demanded. 'Throw away your wine!'
15
Oh no, sir!' she replied. 'I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the
Lord
.
16
Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.'
17
In that case,' Eli said, 'go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 1
14
And Eli said to her, "How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you."
15
But Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the
Lord
.
16
Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation."
17
Then Eli answered, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him."
New International Version
Chapter 1
14
and said to her, "How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine."
15
"Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the
Lord
.
16
Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief."
17
Eli answered, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."
New King James Version
Chapter 1
14
So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!”
15
But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I
am
a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the
Lord
.
16
“Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.”
17
Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.”
