1 Kings 8:13-19
New American Standard Bible
14Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.
15He said, 'Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and fulfilled it with His hands, saying,
16‘Since the day that I brought My people Israel from Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house so that My name would be there, but I chose David to be over My people Israel.’
17Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
18But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.
19Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will be born to you, he will build the house for My name.’
King James Version
Chapter 8
13I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. 14And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;) 15And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, 16Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. 17And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. 18And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. 19Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.Christian Standard Bible
15He said: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel! He spoke directly to my father David, and he has fulfilled the promise by his power. He said,
16"Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city to build a temple in among any of the tribes of Israel, so that my name would be there. But I have chosen David to rule my people Israel."
17My father David had his heart set on building a temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
18But the Lord said to my father David, "Since your heart was set on building a temple for my name, you have done well to have this desire.
19Yet you are not the one to build it; instead, your son, your own offspring, will build it for my name."
New Living Translation
14Then the king turned around to the entire community of Israel standing before him and gave this blessing:
15Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who has kept the promise he made to my father, David. For he told my father,
16‘From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have never chosen a city among any of the tribes of Israel as the place where a Temple should be built to honor my name. But I have chosen David to be king over my people Israel.’'
17Then Solomon said, 'My father, David, wanted to build this Temple to honor the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
18But the Lord told him, ‘You wanted to build the Temple to honor my name. Your intention is good,
19but you are not the one to do it. One of your own sons will build the Temple to honor me.’

15Then he said: 'Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said,
16Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.'
17My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
18But the LORD said to my father David, 'You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name.
19Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood--he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.'
