1 Kings 5:3-5
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
3
You know that David my father was unable to build a house for the name of the
Lord
his God because of the wars which surrounded him, until the
Lord
put them under the soles of his feet.
4
But now the
Lord
my God has secured me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.
5
So behold, I intend to build a house for the name of the
Lord
my God, just as the
Lord
spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will put on your throne in your place, he will build the house for My name.’
King James Version
Chapter 5
3
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the
Lord
his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the
Lord
put them under the soles of his feet.
4
But now the
Lord
my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
5
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the
Lord
my God, as the
Lord
spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
3
"You know my father David was not able to build a temple for the name of the
Lord
his God. This was because of the warfare all around him until the
Lord
put his enemies under his feet.
4
The
Lord
my God has now given me rest on every side; there is no enemy or crisis.
5
So I plan to build a temple for the name of the
Lord
my God, according to what the
Lord
promised my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the temple for my name.’
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
3
'You know that my father, David, was not able to build a Temple to honor the name of the
Lord
his God because of the many wars waged against him by surrounding nations. He could not build until the
Lord
gave him victory over all his enemies.
4
But now the
Lord
my God has given me peace on every side; I have no enemies, and all is well.
5
So I am planning to build a Temple to honor the name of the
Lord
my God, just as he had instructed my father, David. For the
Lord
told him, ‘Your son, whom I will place on your throne, will build the Temple to honor my name.’

3
"You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the

his God until the

I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the

my God has given me rest on every side;
there is

And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the
