Chapter 18
34And he said, 'Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.' And he said, 'Do it a second time,' so they did it a second time. Then he said, 'Do it a third time,' so they did it a third time. 35The water flowed around the altar, and he also filled the trench with water.
36Then at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached and said, 'Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.
37Answer me, Lord, answer me, so that this people may know that You, Lord, are God, and that You have turned their heart back.'
38Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood, and the stones and the dust; and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
39When all the people saw this, they fell on their faces; and they said, 'The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God!'
40Then Elijah said to them, 'Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape.' So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slaughtered them there.

34After they had done this, he said, 'Do the same thing again!' And when they were finished, he said, 'Now do it a third time!' So they did as he said, 35and the water ran around the altar and even filled the trench.
36At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, 'O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command.
37O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.'
38Immediately the fire of the Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones, and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench!
39And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, 'The Lord — he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!'
