1 Kings 18:20-25
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 18
20
So Ahab sent
orders
among all the sons of Israel and brought the prophets together at Mount Carmel.
21
Then Elijah approached all the people and said, 'How long are you going to struggle with the two choices? If the
Lord
is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.' But the people did not answer him
so much as
a word.
22
Then Elijah said to the people, 'I alone am left as a prophet of the
Lord
, while Baal’s prophets are 450 men.
23
Now have them give us two oxen; and have them choose the one ox for themselves and cut it up, and place it on the wood, but put no fire
under it;
and I will prepare the other ox and lay it on the wood, and I will not put a fire
under it.
24
Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the
Lord
; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.' And all the people replied, 'That is a good idea.'
25
So Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose the one ox for yourselves and prepare it first, since
there are
many
of
you, and call on the name of your god, but put no fire
under the ox.
'
King James Version
Chapter 18
20
So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
21
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the
Lord
be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22
Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the
Lord
; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23
Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
24
And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the
Lord
: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
25
And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.

Chapter 18
20
So Ahab summoned all the Israelites and gathered the prophets at Mount Carmel.
21
Then Elijah approached all the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the
Lord
is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him." But the people didn’t answer him a word.
22
Then Elijah said to the people, "I am the only remaining prophet of the
Lord
, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.
23
Let two bulls be given to us. They are to choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire.
24
Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the
Lord
. The God who answers with fire, he is God." All the people answered, "That’s fine."
25
Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Since you are so numerous, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god but don’t light the fire."
New Living Translation
Chapter 18
20
So Ahab summoned all the people of Israel and the prophets to Mount Carmel.
21
Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, 'How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the
Lord
is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!' But the people were completely silent.
22
Then Elijah said to them, 'I am the only prophet of the
Lord
who is left, but Baal has 450 prophets.
23
Now bring two bulls. The prophets of Baal may choose whichever one they wish and cut it into pieces and lay it on the wood of their altar, but without setting fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood on the altar, but not set fire to it.
24
Then call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the
Lord
. The god who answers by setting fire to the wood is the true God!' And all the people agreed.
25
Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, 'You go first, for there are many of you. Choose one of the bulls, and prepare it and call on the name of your god. But do not set fire to the wood.'

Chapter 18
20
So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel.
21
And Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the
Lord
is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him." And the people did not answer him a word.
22
Then Elijah said to the people, "I, even I only, am left a prophet of the
Lord
, but Baal 's prophets are 450 men.
23
Let two bulls be given to us, and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but put no fire to it. And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it.

And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the

, and the God who answers by fire, he is God." And all the people answered, "It is well spoken."
25
Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are many, and call upon the name of your god, but put no fire to it."

Chapter 18
20
So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel.
21
Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the
Lord
is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing.
22
Then Elijah said to them, "I am the only one of the
Lord
’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.
23
Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it.
24
Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the
Lord
. The god who answers by fire—he is God." Then all the people said, "What you say is good."
25
Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire."
