1 Kings 17:11-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
11
As she was going to get
it,
he called to her and said, 'Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.'
12
But she said, 'As the
Lord
your God lives, I have no food, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks so that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, so that we may eat it and die.'
13
However, Elijah said to her, 'Do not fear; go, do as you have said. Just make me a little bread loaf from it first and bring
it
out to me, and afterward you may make
one
for yourself and for your son.
14
For this is what the
Lord
, the God of Israel says: ‘The bowl of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil become empty, until the day that the
Lord
provides rain on the face of the earth.’?'
15
So she went and did
everything
in accordance with the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for
many
days.
King James Version
Chapter 17
11
And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12
And she said, As the
Lord
thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14
For thus saith the
Lord
God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the
Lord
sendeth rain upon the earth.
15
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
11
As she went to get it, he called to her and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand."
12
But she said, "As the
Lord
your God lives, I don’t have anything baked—only a handful of flour in the jar and a bit of oil in the jug. Just now, I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat it and die."
13
Then Elijah said to her, "Don’t be afraid; go and do as you have said. But first make me a small loaf from it and bring it out to me. Afterward, you may make some for yourself and your son,
14
for this is what the
Lord
God of Israel says, ‘The flour jar will not become empty and the oil jug will not run dry until the day the
Lord
sends rain on the surface of the land.’"
15
So she proceeded to do according to the word of Elijah. Then the woman, Elijah, and her household ate for many days.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
11
As she was going to get it, he called to her, 'Bring me a bite of bread, too.'
12
But she said, 'I swear by the
Lord
your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.'
13
But Elijah said to her, 'Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.
14
For this is what the
Lord
, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the
Lord
sends rain and the crops grow again!'
15
So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
11
And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand."
12
And she said, "As the
Lord
your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die."
13
And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son.
14
For thus says the
Lord
, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the
Lord
sends rain upon the earth.’"
15
And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days.
New International Version
Chapter 17
11
As she was going to get it, he called, "And bring me, please, a piece of bread."
12
"As surely as the
Lord
your God lives," she replied, "I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die."
13
Elijah said to her, "Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.
14
For this is what the
Lord
, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the
Lord
sends rain on the land.’ "
15
She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.
New King James Version
Chapter 17
11
And as she was going to get
it,
he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12
So she said, “As the
Lord
your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I
am
gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13
And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go
and
do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring
it
to me; and afterward make
some
for yourself and your son.
14
For thus says the
Lord
God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the
Lord
sends rain on the earth.’ ”
15
So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for
many
days.
