1 Corinthians 9:1-6
New American Standard Bible
King James Version
Christian Standard Bible
New Living Translation
Chapter 9
1Am I not as free as anyone else? Am I not an apostle? Haven’t I seen Jesus our Lord with my own eyes? Isn’t it because of my work that you belong to the Lord? 2Even if others think I am not an apostle, I certainly am to you. You yourselves are proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.
3This is my answer to those who question my authority.
4Don’t we have the right to live in your homes and share your meals?
5Don’t we have the right to bring a believing wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers do, and as Peter does?
6Or is it only Barnabas and I who have to work to support ourselves?
English Standard Version
Chapter 9
1Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? 2If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you, for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
3This is my defense to those who would examine me.
4Do we not have the right to eat and drink?
5Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?
6Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living?
New International Version
Chapter 9
1Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord? 2Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
3This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me.
4Don't we have the right to food and drink?
5Don't we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas?
6Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living?
