1 Chronicles 22:6-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 22
6
Then he called for his son Solomon, and commanded him to build a house for the
Lord
God of Israel.
7
David said to Solomon, 'My son, I had intended to build a house for the name of the
Lord
my God.
8
But the word of the
Lord
came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed
so
much blood on the earth before Me.
9
Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.
10
He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
11
Now, my son, the
Lord
be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the
Lord
your God just as He has spoken concerning you.
12
Only the
Lord
give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the
Lord
your God.
King James Version
Chapter 22
6
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the
Lord
God of Israel.
7
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the
Lord
my God:
8
But the word of the
Lord
came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
9
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
10
He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
11
Now, my son, the
Lord
be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the
Lord
thy God, as he hath said of thee.
12
Only the
Lord
give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the
Lord
thy God.

Chapter 22
6
Then he summoned his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the
Lord
God of Israel.
7
"My son," David said to Solomon, "It was in my heart to build a house for the name of the
Lord
my God,
8
but the word of the
Lord
came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for my name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before me.
9
But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.
10
He is the one who will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
11
"Now, my son, may the
Lord
be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the
Lord
your God, as he said about you.
12
Above all, may the
Lord
give you insight and understanding when he puts you in charge of Israel so that you may keep the law of the
Lord
your God.
New Living Translation
Chapter 22
6
Then David sent for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a Temple for the
Lord
, the God of Israel.
7
My son, I wanted to build a Temple to honor the name of the
Lord
my God,' David told him.
8
But the
Lord
said to me, ‘You have killed many men in the battles you have fought. And since you have shed so much blood in my sight, you will not be the one to build a Temple to honor my name.
9
But you will have a son who will be a man of peace. I will give him peace with his enemies in all the surrounding lands. His name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.
10
He is the one who will build a Temple to honor my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will secure the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’
11
Now, my son, may the
Lord
be with you and give you success as you follow his directions in building the Temple of the
Lord
your God.
12
And may the
Lord
give you wisdom and understanding, that you may obey the Law of the
Lord
your God as you rule over Israel.
