Chapter 14

8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard about it and went out against them. 9Now the Philistines had come and carried out a raid in the Valley of Rephaim. 10David inquired of God, saying, 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You hand them over to me?' Then the Lord said to him, 'Go up, for I will hand them over to you.' 11So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, 'God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.' Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.

8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them. 9And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 10And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand. 11So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of David; when David heard of this, he went out to face them. 9Now the Philistines had come and raided in the Valley of Rephaim,
10so David inquired of God, "Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The Lord replied, "Attack, and I will hand them over to you."
11So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, "Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies." Therefore, they named that place The Lord Bursts Out.

8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he marched out to meet them. 9The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
10So David asked God, 'Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?' The Lord replied, 'Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.'
11So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. 'God did it!' David exclaimed. 'He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!' So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means 'the Lord who bursts through').
