What does Exodus 15:2 mean?

The words used here are broad but have specific application to this moment in history. "Strength" is the Lord's power in defeating Egypt. A "song," in this context, is a person's reason for joy and praise (Psalm 77:6; 118:14). God's "salvation" refers to the event inspiring this chapter's extensive praise. Moses is leading Israel in this acclaim for the Lord (Exodus 15:1). They rejoice over their recent rescue from Egypt through God's miraculous work at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21–29).

Referring to the Lord as "my God" notes a personal connection to each individual person. He is also the God of Israel's ancestors (Exodus 3:16; 4:5), their "fathers." All praise, from individual Hebrews and the nation itself, are directed to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Exodus 6:3).
