Zechariah 4:8-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
8
Also the word of the
Lord
came to me, saying,
9
The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish
it.
Then you will know that the
Lord
of armies has sent me to you.
10
For who has shown contempt for the day of small things? But these seven will rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel—they are the eyes of the
Lord
roaming throughout the earth.'
11
Then I said to him, 'What are these two olive trees on the right of the lampstand and on its left?'
12
And I responded the second time and said to him, 'What are the two olive branches which are beside the two golden pipes, which empty the golden
oil
from themselves?'
King James Version
Chapter 4
8
Moreover the word of the
Lord
came unto me, saying,
9
The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the
Lord
of hosts hath sent me unto you.
10
For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the
Lord
, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
11
Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
12
And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4
8
Then the word of the
Lord
came to me:
9
"Zerubbabel’s hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the
Lord
of Armies has sent me to you.
10
For who despises the day of small things? These seven eyes of the
Lord
, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the ceremonial stone in Zerubbabel’s hand."
11
I asked him, "What are the two olive trees on the right and left of the lampstand?"
12
And I questioned him further, "What are the two streams of the olive trees, from which the golden oil is pouring through the two golden conduits?"
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
8
Then another message came to me from the
Lord
:
9
Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies has sent me.
10
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the
Lord
rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.' (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the
Lord
that search all around the world.)
11
Then I asked the angel, 'What are these two olive trees on each side of the lampstand,
12
and what are the two olive branches that pour out golden oil through two gold tubes?'
English Standard Version
Chapter 4
8

Lord
came to me, saying,
9
"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the
Lord
of hosts has sent me to you.
10
For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. "These seven are the eyes of the
Lord
, which range through the whole earth."
11
Then I said to him, "What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?"
12
And a second time I answered and said to him, "What are these two branches of the olive trees, which are beside the two golden pipes from which the golden oil is poured out?"

Chapter 4
8
Then the word of the
Lord
came to me:
9
"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the
Lord
Almighty has sent me to you.
10
"Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the
Lord
that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?"
11
Then I asked the angel, "What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?"
12
Again I asked him, "What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?"
New King James Version
Chapter 4
8
Moreover the word of the
Lord
came to me, saying:
9
“The hands of Zerubbabel
Have laid the foundation of this temple;
His hands shall also finish
it.
Then you will know
That the
Lord
of hosts has sent Me to you.
10
For who has despised the day of small things?
For these seven rejoice to see
The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.
They are the eyes of the
Lord
,
Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”
11
Then I answered and said to him, “What
are
these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?”
12
And I further answered and said to him, “What
are these
two olive branches that
drip
into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden
oil
drains?”
