Romans 9:32-33
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
32
Why? Because
they did
not
pursue it
by faith, but as though
they could
by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
33
just as it is written:
'BEHOLD, I AM LAYING IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE,
AND THE ONE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME.'
King James Version
Chapter 9
32
Wherefore? Because
they sought it
not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33
As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 9
32
Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.
33
As it is written,Look, I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble overand a rock to trip over, and the one who believes on himwill not be put to shame.
New Living Translation
Chapter 9
32
Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law instead of by trusting in him. They stumbled over the great rock in their path.
33
God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said,
'I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble,
a rock that makes them fall.
But anyone who trusts in him
will never be disgraced.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 9
32
Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
33
as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
New International Version
Chapter 9
32
Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.
33
As it is written: 'See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.'
