Chapter 17
1Hear a just cause, Lord, give Your attention to my cry; Listen to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips. 2Let my judgment come forth from Your presence; Let Your eyes look with integrity. 3You have put my heart to the test; You have visited me by night; You have sifted me and You find nothing; My intent is that my mouth will not offend. 4As for the works of mankind, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the ways of the violent. 5My steps have held to Your paths. My feet have not slipped. 6I have called upon You, for You will answer me, God; Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech. 7Show Your wonderful faithfulness, Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them. 8Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings 9From the wicked who deal violently with me, My deadly enemies who surround me. 10They have closed their unfeeling hearts, With their mouths they speak proudly. 11They have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground. 12He is like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion lurking in secret places. 13Arise, Lord, confront him, make him bow down; Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword, 14From people by Your hand, Lord, From people of the world, whose portion is in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babies. 15As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.Chapter 18
1 'I love You, Lord, my strength.' 2The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. 4The ropes of death encompassed me, And the torrents of destruction terrified me. 5The ropes of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. 6In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. 7Then the earth shook and quaked; And the foundations of the mountains were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry. 8Smoke went up out of His nostrils, And fire from His mouth was devouring; Coals burned from it. 9He also bowed the heavens down low, and came down With thick darkness under His feet. 10He rode on a cherub and flew; And He sped on the wings of the wind. 11He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds. 12From the brightness before Him passed His thick clouds, Hailstones and coals of fire. 13The Lord also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire. 14He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, And lightning flashes in abundance, and routed them. 15Then the channels of water appeared, And the foundations of the world were exposed By Your rebuke, Lord, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. 16He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. 17He saved me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. 18They confronted me in the day of my disaster, But the Lord was my support. 19He also brought me out into an open place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me. 20The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me. 21For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not acted wickedly against my God. 22For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me. 23I was also blameless with Him, And I kept myself from my wrongdoing. 24Therefore the Lord has repaid me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes. 25With the faithful You show Yourself faithful; With the blameless You prove Yourself blameless; 26With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the crooked You show Yourself astute. 27For You save an afflicted people, But You humiliate haughty eyes. 28For You light my lamp; The Lord my God illumines my darkness. 29For by You I can run at a troop of warriors; And by my God I can leap over a wall. 30As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the Lord is refined; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. 31For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God, 32The God who encircles me with strength, And makes my way blameless? 33He makes my feet like deer’s feet, And sets me up on my high places. 34He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great. 36You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped. 37I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed. 38I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise; They fell under my feet. 39For You have encircled me with strength for battle; You have forced those who rose up against me to bow down under me. 40You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me. 41They cried for help, but there was no one to save, They cried to the Lord, but He did not answer them. 42Then I beat them fine like the dust before the wind; I emptied them out like the mud of the streets. 43You have rescued me from the contentions of the people; You have placed me as head of the nations; A people whom I have not known serve me. 44As soon as they hear, they obey me; Foreigners pretend to obey me. 45Foreigners lose heart, And come trembling out of their fortresses. 46The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation, 47The God who executes vengeance for me, And subdues peoples under me. 48He rescues me from my enemies; You indeed lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from a violent man. 49Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, Lord, And I will sing praises to Your name. 50He gives great salvation to His king, And shows faithfulness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever.Chapter 19
1The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands. 2Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. 3There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. 4Their line has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, 5Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices like a strong person to run his course. 6Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. 10They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold; Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11Moreover, Your servant is warned by them; In keeping them there is great reward. 12Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. 13Also keep Your servant back from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be innocent, And I will be blameless of great wrongdoing. 14May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.Chapter 20
1May the Lord answer you on a day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! 2May He send you help from the sanctuary, And support you from Zion! 3May He remember all your meal offerings And accept your burnt offering! Selah 4May He grant you your heart’s desire And fulfill your whole plan! 5 We will sing for joy over your victory, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your desires. 6Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand. 7Some praise their chariots and some their horses, But we will praise the name of the Lord, our God. 8They have bowed down and fallen, But we have risen and stood upright. 9 Save, Lord; May the King answer us on the day we call.Chapter 21
1Lord, in Your strength the king will be glad, And in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice! 2You have given him his heart’s desire, And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah 3For You meet him with the blessings of good things; You set a crown of pure gold on his head. 4He asked for life from You, You gave it to him, Length of days forever and ever. 5His glory is great through Your salvation, Splendor and majesty You place upon him. 6For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with the joy of Your presence. 7For the king trusts in the Lord, And through the faithfulness of the Most High he will not be shaken. 8Your hand will find all your enemies; Your right hand will find those who hate you. 9You will make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger; The Lord will swallow them up in His wrath, And fire will devour them. 10You will eliminate their descendants from the earth, And their children from among the sons of mankind. 11Though they intended evil against You And devised a plot, They will not succeed. 12For You will make them turn their back; You will take aim at their faces with Your bowstrings. 13Be exalted, Lord, in Your strength; We will sing and praise Your power.Chapter 22
1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my help are the words of my groaning. 2My God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest. 3Yet You are holy, You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. 4In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You rescued them. 5To You they cried out and they fled to safety; In You they trusted and were not disappointed. 6But I am a worm and not a person, A disgrace of mankind and despised by the people. 7All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying, 8'Turn him over to the Lord; let Him save him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.' 9Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts. 10I was cast upon You from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb. 11Do not be far from me, for trouble is near; For there is no one to help. 12Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. 13They open their mouths wide at me, As a ravening and roaring lion. 14I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. 15My strength is dried up like a piece of pottery, And my tongue clings to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death. 16For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. 17I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; 18They divide my garments among them, And they cast lots for my clothing. 19But You, Lord, do not be far away; You who are my help, hurry to my assistance. 20Save my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. 21Save me from the lion’s mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me. 22I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. 23You who fear the Lord, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel. 24For He has not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard. 25From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. 26The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. May your heart live forever! 27All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. 28For the kingdom is the Lord’S And He rules over the nations. 29All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will kneel before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive. 30A posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation. 31They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it.Chapter 23
1The Lord is my shepherd, I will not be in need. 2He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For the sake of His name. 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6 Certainly goodness and faithfulness will follow me all the days of my life, And my dwelling will be in the house of the Lord forever.Chapter 24
1The earth is the Lord’S, and all it contains, The world, and those who live in it. 2For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. 3Who may ascend onto the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? 4One who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to deceit And has not sworn deceitfully. 5He will receive a blessing from the Lord And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face— even Jacob. Selah 7Lift up your heads, you gates, And be lifted up, you ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 8Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. 9Lift up your heads, you gates, And lift them up, you ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 10Who is this King of glory? The Lord of armies, He is the King of glory. SelahChapter 25
1To You, Lord, I lift up my soul. 2My God, in You I trust, Do not let me be ashamed; Do not let my enemies rejoice over me. 3Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed; Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed. 4Make me know Your ways, Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day. 6Remember, Lord, Your compassion and Your faithfulness, For they have been from of old. 7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoings; Remember me according to Your faithfulness, For Your goodness’ sake, Lord. 8The Lord is good and upright; Therefore He instructs sinners in the way. 9He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way. 10All the paths of the Lord are faithfulness and truth To those who comply with His covenant and His testimonies. 11For the sake of Your name, Lord, Forgive my wrongdoing, for it is great. 12Who is the person who fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way he should choose. 13His soul will dwell in prosperity, And his descendants will inherit the land. 14The secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant. 15My eyes are continually toward the Lord, For He will rescue my feet from the net. 16Turn to me and be gracious to me, For I am lonely and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses. 18Look at my misery and my trouble, And forgive all my sins. 19Look at my enemies, for they are many, And they hate me with violent hatred. 20Guard my soul and save me; Do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in You. 21Let integrity and uprightness protect me, For I wait for You. 22Redeem Israel, God, From all his distress.King James Version
13Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:
14Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
37I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.

Chapter 17
1A prayer of David. Lord, hear a just cause; pay attention to my cry; listen to my prayer— from lips free of deceit. 2Let my vindication come from you, for you see what is right. 3You have tested my heart; you have examined me at night. You have tried me and found nothing evil; I have determined that my mouth will not sin. 4Concerning what people do: by the words from your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.
5My steps are on your paths; my feet have not slipped.
6I call on you, God, because you will answer me; listen closely to me; hear what I say.
7Display the wonders of your faithful love, Savior of all who seek refuge from those who rebel against your right hand.
8Protect me as the pupil of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
9from the wicked who treat me violently, my deadly enemies who surround me.
10They are uncaring; their mouths speak arrogantly.
11They advance against me; now they surround me. They are determined to throw me to the ground.
12They are like a lion eager to tear, like a young lion lurking in ambush.
13Rise up, Lord! Confront him; bring him down. With your sword, save me from the wicked.
14With your hand, Lord, save me from men, from men of the world whose portion is in this life: You fill their bellies with what you have in store; their sons are satisfied, and they leave their surplus to their children.
15But I will see your face in righteousness; when I awake, I will be satisfied with your presence.
Chapter 18
1For the choir director. Of the servant of the Lord, David, who spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from the grasp of all his enemies and from the power of Saul. He said: I love you, Lord, my strength. 2The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.
4The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me.
5The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.
6I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.
7Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because he burned with anger.
8Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; coals were set ablaze by it.
9He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet.
10He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
11He made darkness his hiding place, dark storm clouds his canopy around him.
12From the radiance of his presence, his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.
13The Lord thundered from heaven; the Most High made his voice heard.
14He shot his arrows and scattered them; he hurled lightning bolts and routed them.
15The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at your rebuke, Lord, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
16He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water.
17He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support.
19He brought me out to a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
20The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; he repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands.
21For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not turned from my God to wickedness.
22Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me and have not disregarded his statutes.
23I was blameless toward him and kept myself from my iniquity.
24So the Lord repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25With the faithful you prove yourself faithful, with the blameless you prove yourself blameless,
26with the pure you prove yourself pure; but with the crooked you prove yourself shrewd.
27For you rescue an oppressed people, but you humble those with haughty eyes.
28 Lord, you light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness.
29With you I can attack a barricade, and with my God I can leap over a wall.
30God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him.
31For who is God besides the Lord? And who is a rock? Only our God.
32God—he clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect.
33He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights.
34He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35You have given me the shield of your salvation; your right hand upholds me, and your humility exalts me.
36You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way.
37I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out.
38I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet.
39You have clothed me with strength for battle; you subdue my adversaries beneath me.
40You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me.
41They cry for help, but there is no one to save them — they cry to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
42I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets.
43You have freed me from the feuds among the people; you have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me.
44Foreigners submit to me cringing; as soon as they hear they obey me.
45Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications.
46The Lord lives—blessed be my rock! The God of my salvation is exalted.
47God—he grants me vengeance and subdues peoples under me.
48He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; you rescue me from violent men.
49Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations, Lord; I will sing praises about your name.
50He gives great victories to his king; he shows loyalty to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
Chapter 19
1For the choir director. A psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands. 2Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge. 3There is no speech; there are no words; their voice is not heard. 4Their message has gone out to the whole earth, and their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun. 5It is like a bridegroom coming from his home; it rejoices like an athlete running a course.
6It rises from one end of the heavens and circles to their other end; nothing is hidden from its heat.
7The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.
8The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up.
9The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.
10They are more desirable than gold— than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb.
11In addition, your servant is warned by them, and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.
12Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.
13Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed from blatant rebellion.
14May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
Chapter 20
1For the choir director. A psalm of David. May the Lord answer you in a day of trouble; may the name of Jacob’s God protect you. 2May he send you help from the sanctuary and sustain you from Zion.
3May he remember all your offerings and accept your burnt offering. Selah
4May he give you what your heart desires and fulfill your whole purpose.
5Let us shout for joy at your victory and lift the banner in the name of our God. May the Lord fulfill all your requests.
6Now I know that the Lord gives victory to his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories from his right hand.
7Some take pride in chariots, and others in horses, but we take pride in the name of the Lord our God.
8They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king! May he answer us on the day that we call.
2You have given him his heart’s desire and have not denied the request of his lips. Selah
3For you meet him with rich blessings; you place a crown of pure gold on his head.
4He asked you for life, and you gave it to him— length of days forever and ever.
5His glory is great through your victory; you confer majesty and splendor on him.
6You give him blessings forever; you cheer him with joy in your presence.
7For the king relies on the Lord; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken.
8Your hand will capture all your enemies; your right hand will seize those who hate you.
9You will make them burn like a fiery furnace when you appear; the Lord will engulf them in his wrath, and fire will devour them.
10You will wipe their progeny from the earth and their offspring from the human race.
11Though they intend to harm you and devise a wicked plan, they will not prevail.
12Instead, you will put them to flight when you ready your bowstrings to shoot at them.
13Be exalted, Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.
Chapter 22
1For the choir director: according to "The Deer of the Dawn." A psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far from my deliverance and from my words of groaning? 2My God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, by night, yet I have no rest. 3But you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4Our fathers trusted in you; they trusted, and you rescued them.
5They cried to you and were set free; they trusted in you and were not disgraced.
6But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by people.
7Everyone who sees me mocks me; they sneer and shake their heads:
8"He relies on the Lord; let him save him; let the Lord rescue him, since he takes pleasure in him."
9It was you who brought me out of the womb, making me secure at my mother’s breast.
11Don’t be far from me, because distress is near and there’s no one to help.
12Many bulls surround me; strong ones of Bashan encircle me.
13They open their mouths against me— lions, mauling and roaring.
14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed; my heart is like wax, melting within me.
15My strength is dried up like baked clay; my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You put me into the dust of death.
16For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evildoers has closed in on me; they pierced my hands and my feet.
17I can count all my bones; people look and stare at me.
18They divided my garments among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing.
19But you, Lord, don’t be far away. My strength, come quickly to help me.
20Rescue my life from the sword, my only life from the power of these dogs.
21Save me from the lion’s mouth, from the horns of wild oxen. You answered me!
22I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise you in the assembly.
23You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! All you descendants of Israel, revere him!
24For he has not despised or abhorred the torment of the oppressed. He did not hide his face from him but listened when he cried to him for help.
25I will give praise in the great assembly because of you; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear you.
26The humble will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him. May your hearts live forever!
27All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord. All the families of the nations will bow down before you,
28for kingship belongs to the Lord; he rules the nations.
29All who prosper on earth will eat and bow down; all those who go down to the dust will kneel before him— even the one who cannot preserve his life.
30Their descendants will serve him; the next generation will be told about the Lord.
31They will come and declare his righteousness; to a people yet to be born they will declare what he has done.
Chapter 23
1A psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. 2He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. 3He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
4Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.
2for he laid its foundation on the seas and established it on the rivers.
3Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
4The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not appealed to what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully.
5He will receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6Such is the generation of those who inquire of him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
7Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in.
8Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.
9Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in.
Chapter 25
1Of David. Lord, I appeal to you. 2My God, I trust in you. Do not let me be disgraced; do not let my enemies gloat over me.
3No one who waits for you will be disgraced; those who act treacherously without cause will be disgraced.
4Make your ways known to me, Lord; teach me your paths.
5Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all day long.
6Remember, Lord, your compassion and your faithful love, for they have existed from antiquity.
7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my acts of rebellion; in keeping with your faithful love, remember me because of your goodness, Lord.
8The Lord is good and upright; therefore he shows sinners the way.
9He leads the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
10All the Lord’s ways show faithful love and truth to those who keep his covenant and decrees.
11 Lord, for the sake of your name, forgive my iniquity, for it is immense.
12Who is this person who fears the Lord? He will show him the way he should choose.
13He will live a good life, and his descendants will inherit the land.
14The secret counsel of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he reveals his covenant to them.
15My eyes are always on the Lord, for he will pull my feet out of the net.
16Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am alone and afflicted.
17The distresses of my heart increase; bring me out of my sufferings.
18Consider my affliction and trouble, and forgive all my sins.
19Consider my enemies; they are numerous, and they hate me violently.
20Guard me and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
1O Lord, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips. 2Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right.
3You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say.
4I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people.
5My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you.
6I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.
7Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies.
8Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
9Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me.
10They are without pity. Listen to their boasting!
11They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground.
12They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart — like young lions hiding in ambush.
13Arise, O Lord! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword!
14By the power of your hand, O Lord, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants.
15Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.
Chapter 18
1I love you, Lord; you are my strength. 2The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. 3I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.
4The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me.
5The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path.
6But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.
7Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the mountains shook; they quaked because of his anger.
8Smoke poured from his nostrils; fierce flames leaped from his mouth. Glowing coals blazed forth from him.
9He opened the heavens and came down; dark storm clouds were beneath his feet.
10Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
11He shrouded himself in darkness, veiling his approach with dark rain clouds.
12Thick clouds shielded the brightness around him and rained down hail and burning coals.
13The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded amid the hail and burning coals.
14He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies; great bolts of lightning flashed, and they were confused.
15Then at your command, O Lord, at the blast of your breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.
16He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters.
17He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me.
18They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me.
19He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.
20The Lord rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence.
21For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not turned from my God to follow evil.
22I have followed all his regulations; I have never abandoned his decrees.
23I am blameless before God; I have kept myself from sin.
24The Lord rewarded me for doing right. He has seen my innocence.
25To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.
26To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
27You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud.
28You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.
29In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.
30God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
31For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?
32God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect.
33He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.
34He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
35You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.
36You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.
37I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered.
38I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet.
39You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet.
40You placed my foot on their necks. I have destroyed all who hated me.
41They called for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the Lord, but he refused to answer.
42I ground them as fine as dust in the wind. I swept them into the gutter like dirt.
43You gave me victory over my accusers. You appointed me ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me.
44As soon as they hear of me, they submit; foreign nations cringe before me.
45They all lose their courage and come trembling from their strongholds.
46The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted!
47He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me
48and rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents.
49For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name.
50You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever.
Chapter 19
1The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.
4Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
5It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
6The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.
7The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
8The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
9Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.
10They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.
11They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.
12How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.
Chapter 20
1In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm. 2May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem.
4May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.
5May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the Lord answer all your prayers.
6Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.
7Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
8Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm.
Chapter 21
1How the king rejoices in your strength, O Lord! He shouts with joy because you give him victory.
3You welcomed him back with success and prosperity. You placed a crown of finest gold on his head.
4He asked you to preserve his life, and you granted his request. The days of his life stretch on forever.
5Your victory brings him great honor, and you have clothed him with splendor and majesty.
6You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence.
7For the king trusts in the Lord. The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling.
8You will capture all your enemies. Your strong right hand will seize all who hate you.
9You will throw them in a flaming furnace when you appear. The Lord will consume them in his anger; fire will devour them.
10You will wipe their children from the face of the earth; they will never have descendants.
11Although they plot against you, their evil schemes will never succeed.
12For they will turn and run when they see your arrows aimed at them.
13Rise up, O Lord, in all your power. With music and singing we celebrate your mighty acts.
Chapter 22
1My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? 2Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.
3Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
4Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them.
5They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced.
6But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!
7Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,
8'Is this the one who relies on the Lord? Then let the Lord save him! If the Lord loves him so much, let the Lord rescue him!'
9Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast.
10I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born.
11Do not stay so far from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me.
12My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls; fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in!
13Like lions they open their jaws against me, roaring and tearing into their prey.
14My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me.
15My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead.
16My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
17I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat.
18They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing.
19O Lord, do not stay far away! You are my strength; come quickly to my aid!
20Save me from the sword; spare my precious life from these dogs.
21Snatch me from the lion’s jaws and from the horns of these wild oxen.
22I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.
23Praise the Lord, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel!
24For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.
25I will praise you in the great assembly. I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you.
26The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the Lord will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.
27The whole earth will acknowledge the Lord and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him.
28For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations.
29Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Bow before him, all who are mortal, all whose lives will end as dust.
30Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord.
31His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done.
Chapter 23
1The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.Chapter 24
1The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. 2For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.
3Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
4Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.
5They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior.
7Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter.
8Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle.
9Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter.
Chapter 25
1 O Lord, I give my life to you. 2I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. 3No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
4Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
5Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
6Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past.
7Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.
8The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
9He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.
10The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
11For the honor of your name, O Lord, forgive my many, many sins.
12Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose.
13They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land.
14The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.
15My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.
16Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress.
17My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all!
18Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.
19See how many enemies I have and how viciously they hate me!
20Protect me! Rescue my life from them! Do not let me be disgraced, for in you I take refuge.
21May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! 2From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! 3You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. 4With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. 5My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. 6I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. 7 Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. 8Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, 9from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. 10 They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. 11They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. 12He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. 13Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, 14from men by your hand, O Lord, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. 15As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.Chapter 18
1I love you, O Lord, my strength. 2The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. 4 The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; 5 the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. 7Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations also of the mountains trembled and quaked, because he was angry. 8Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him. 9He bowed the heavens and came down; thick darkness was under his feet. 10He rode on a cherub and flew; he came swiftly on the wings of the wind. 11He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him, thick clouds dark with water. 12Out of the brightness before him hailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds. 13The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, hailstones and coals of fire. 14And he sent out his arrows and scattered them; he flashed forth lightnings and routed them. 15Then the channels of the sea were seen, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. 16He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. 17He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. 18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. 19He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me. 20The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. 21For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 22For all his rules were before me, and his statutes I did not put away from me. 23I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. 24So the Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. 25With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless; 26with the purified you show yourself pure; and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous. 27For you save a humble people, but the haughty eyes you bring down. 28For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness. 29For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. 30This God — his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. 31For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? — 32the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. 33He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights. 34He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. 36You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip. 37I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed. 38I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise; they fell under my feet. 39For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me. 40You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and those who hated me I destroyed. 41 They cried for help, but there was none to save; they cried to the Lord, but he did not answer them. 42I beat them fine as dust before the wind; I cast them out like the mire of the streets. 43You delivered me from strife with the people; you made me the head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me. 44As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me. 45 Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their fortresses. 46The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation — 47the God who gave me vengeance and subdued peoples under me, 48who rescued me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me; you delivered me from the man of violence. 49 For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing to your name. 50Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever.Chapter 19
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. 2Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, 5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. 6Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. 13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. 14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.Chapter 20
1May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! 2May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion! 3May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah 4May he grant you your heart 's desire and fulfill all your plans! 5May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions! 6Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. 7Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. 9O Lord, save the king! May he answer us when we call.Chapter 21
1O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation how greatly he exults! 2You have given him his heart 's desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah 3For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head. 4He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. 5His glory is great through your salvation; splendor and majesty you bestow on him. 6For you make him most blessed forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence. 7For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved. 8Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you. 9You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them. 10You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man. 11Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed. 12For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows. 13Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.Chapter 22
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? 2O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest. 3Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. 5To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. 6But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people. 7All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; 8 "He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!" 9Yet you are he who took me from the womb; you made me trust you at my mother 's breasts. 10On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother 's womb you have been my God. 11Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help. 12Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me; 13they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion. 14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; 15my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. 16For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet — 17I can count all my bones — they stare and gloat over me; 18 they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. 19But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! 20Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog! 21Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen! 22 I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: 23You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! 24For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him. 25From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will perform before those who fear him. 26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord! May your hearts live forever! 27All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. 29All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not keep himself alive. 30Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; 31they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.Chapter 23
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name 's sake. 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.Chapter 24
1 The earth is the Lord 's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah 7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! 9Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! SelahChapter 25
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. 3Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. 4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. 6Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. 7Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord! 8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. 10All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. 11For your name 's sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. 12Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. 13His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. 15My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. 18 Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. 19Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me. 20Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. 21May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.New International Version
2Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
3Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.
4Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded.
5My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
6I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
7Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
8Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
9from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
10They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
11They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a fierce lion crouching in cover.
13Rise up, Lord, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
14By your hand save me from such people, Lord, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones.
15As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
2The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.
4The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
6In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
7The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
8Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
9He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.
10He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.
11He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him— the dark rain clouds of the sky.
12Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.
13The Lord thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.
14He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them.
15The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, Lord, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
16He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
17He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
18They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.
19He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
20The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
21For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I am not guilty of turning from my God.
22All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.
23I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.
24The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
26to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.
27You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.
28You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
29With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall.
30As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
31For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?
32It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
33He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.
34He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.
36You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.
37I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.
39You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.
40You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.
41They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the Lord, but he did not answer.
42I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets.
43You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,
44foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.
46The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
47He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,
48who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.
49Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.
50He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.
Chapter 19
1For the director of music. A psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. 5It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
8The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
9The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.
10They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
11By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
12But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.
13Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
14May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Chapter 20
1For the director of music. A psalm of David. May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. 3May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. 4May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
5May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.
6Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.
7Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!
Chapter 21
1For the director of music. A psalm of David. The king rejoices in your strength, Lord. How great is his joy in the victories you give! 2You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. 3You came to greet him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head. 4He asked you for life, and you gave it to him— length of days, for ever and ever. 5Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty. 6Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
7For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.
8Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes.
9When you appear for battle, you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and his fire will consume them.
10You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind.
11Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.
12You will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow.
13Be exalted in your strength, Lord; we will sing and praise your might.
2My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.
3Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
4In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
5To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
6But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
7All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
8"He trusts in the Lord," they say, "let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
9Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast.
11Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
12Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
13Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me.
14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me.
15My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
16Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.
17All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me.
18They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.
19But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.
20Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.
21Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
22I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you.
23You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
24For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
25From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.
26The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him— may your hearts live forever!
27All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
28for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.
29All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
31They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!
Chapter 23
1A psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
4Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
2for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.
3Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
4The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
5They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.
6Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
7Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
8Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
9Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
10Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— he is the King of glory.
Chapter 25
1Of David. In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. 2I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
4Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
5Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
6Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
7Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.
8Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
10All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
12Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
13They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land.
14The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
15My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
16Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
17Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.
18Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
New King James Version
Chapter 17
1{A Prayer of David.} Hear a just cause, O Lord, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. 2Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright. 3You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. 4Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. 5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. 6 I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. 7Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. 8Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, 9From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. 10They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly. 11They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, 12As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. 13Arise, O Lord, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, 14With Your hand from men, O Lord, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.Chapter 18
1{To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said:} I will love You, O Lord, my strength. 2The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. 4 The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. 5The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. 6In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears. 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry. 8Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it. 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down With darkness under His feet. 10 And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind. 11He made darkness His secret place; His canopy around Him was dark waters And thick clouds of the skies. 12 From the brightness before Him, His thick clouds passed with hailstones and coals of fire. 13The Lord thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire. 14 He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe, Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them. 15Then the channels of the sea were seen, The foundations of the world were uncovered At Your rebuke, O Lord, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. 16 He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. 17He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me. 18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the Lord was my support. 19 He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. 20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. 21For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not wickedly departed from my God. 22For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me. 23I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. 24 Therefore the Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. 25 With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; 26With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd. 27For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. 28 For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. 29For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall. 30 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. 31 For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places. 34 He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. 36You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip. 37I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed. 38I have wounded them, So that they could not rise; They have fallen under my feet. 39For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. 40You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me. 41They cried out, but there was none to save; Even to the Lord, but He did not answer them. 42Then I beat them as fine as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like dirt in the streets. 43You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You have made me the head of the nations; A people I have not known shall serve me. 44As soon as they hear of me they obey me; The foreigners submit to me. 45 The foreigners fade away, And come frightened from their hideouts. 46The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted. 47 It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; 48He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. 49 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name. 50 Great deliverance He gives to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore.Chapter 19
1{To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, 5Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. 6Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. 12Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.Chapter 20
1{To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; 2May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion;
4May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose.
5We will rejoice in your salvation, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
6Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand.
7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
8They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright.
9Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call.
3For You meet him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold upon his head.
4 He asked life from You, and You gave it to him— Length of days forever and ever.
5His glory is great in Your salvation; Honor and majesty You have placed upon him.
6For You have made him most blessed forever; You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence.
7For the king trusts in the Lord, And through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved.
8Your hand will find all Your enemies; Your right hand will find those who hate You.
9You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger; The Lord shall swallow them up in His wrath, And the fire shall devour them.
10Their offspring You shall destroy from the earth, And their descendants from among the sons of men.
11For they intended evil against You; They devised a plot which they are not able to perform.
12Therefore You will make them turn their back; You will make ready Your arrows on Your string toward their faces.
13Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power.
Chapter 22
1{To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Deer of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David.} My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning? 2O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; And in the night season, and am not silent. 3But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel. 4Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them. 5They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed. 6But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people. 7 All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8“He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” 9 But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts. 10I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother’s womb You have been My God. 11Be not far from Me, For trouble is near; For there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. 13 They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. 14I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death. 16For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; 17I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. 19But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! 20Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save Me from the lion’s mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. 22 I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. 23 You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel! 24For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard. 25 My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those who fear Him. 26The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever! 27All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You. 28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s, And He rules over the nations. 29 All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive. 30A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation, 31They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this.Chapter 23
1{A Psalm of David.} The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.Chapter 24
1{A Psalm of David.} The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
